i need 2x PR-base adapter (carley) and 2x WA 01160 or 01111 bulb /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif. i missed the gb /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif . what is the best bulb to upgrade a 4D mag ? please send pm with offer
greetings from germany

The 01160 is a 5V, 3.45A bulb. The 01111 is a 6V, 3.35A. I don't think either would be great for a 4D, but I'm not sure. Can 4 D cells put out that much current?

If you're planning to use the 01160 or 01111 with the CA912 PR adapters, don't expect them to last very long. The power of these bulbs will cook them in relatively short order. From your sigline, it looks like you have a MC so that's no problem.

As for a 4-cell mag, your best, easiest bet is a 3-cell krypton or xenon bulb. Beyond that, there's not much that's ultra potent. You'd want a 4.8V bulb.

KPR113 Krypton 4.8V available at Radio Shack works pretty good in a 4 cell. Nothing to write home about; but it is an improvement.

See Wilkey, one of your slower students does listen. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The Carley 805 will also run of 4 D alkaline batteries. Its a bit brighter than the KPR113 with 4 D but it also isn't that exciting.

In my informal testing it SEEMS that a crappy M*G beam can be overcome by a brighter bulb to some exctent.

The quick and easy thing to do is use a piece of 1" plastic schedule 40 pipe and 5C. That is a bit more favorable to bulb life than driving a 3 cell with 4....

I have a couple 3D M*gs with 4C and it helps! Still need Writeright or Acrylite however...

Icey,
That is a good choice. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sproing,
I've blown 805's on 4 alkie cells and I didn't recommend it because that's a bad way to kiss $8 bye-bye. That and the purchase minimum make it slightly less than readily accessible. If you can get it, it's a great 3-cell bulb. The best non-overdriven 3-cell bulb I've found.

PBJoe,
You're absolutely right. The more cells, the more photons. Plus, as the voltage creeps up, the overdrive increment gets smaller making a flash less likely. Although today I blew my last and only WA01185 on 10xAA nimh. For a split second, I knew what 1,000 bulb lumens looked like. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mecry.gif Must remember to condition freshly charged cells with 1-2 minutes of runtime using a Carley 809.

Wilkey
