I've blown 805's on 4 alkie cells and I didn't recommend it because that's a bad way to kiss $8 bye-bye. That and the purchase minimum make it slightly less than readily accessible. If you can get it, it's a great 3-cell bulb. The best non-overdriven 3-cell bulb I've found.

You're absolutely right. The more cells, the more photons. Plus, as the voltage creeps up, the overdrive increment gets smaller making a flash less likely. Although today I blew my last and only WA01185 on 10xAA nimh.
