IMR-E2? Anyone have experiences?

I got one today and the beam seems to be a little blotchy and ringy, but usable. It's BRIGHT and it's WHITE. The bulb does appear a bit off center, though
Is this normal? I kinda half expected the same beam quality as the stock MN03, but this is fine

My first one's bulb was really off-centered, but the filament itself was centered. Because of this, the hotspot was't affected; and yes, it was very bright (much brighter than a TL-3, but not quite as bright as a FM1794), and relatively (to incandescent) white.

But due to the glass being off-centered, the beam artifacts were really off-centered, so bad, that it was very annoying :( (to me).

I emailed LF, and they promptly sent me a new one; no charge, and without having to return the first one. The hotspot on the new one is still perfectly centered, and still has artifacts. But the artifacts are quite centered around the hotspot, and don't affect practical use at all.

My first one burned out after less than 60 seconds of use. Lighthound promptly replaced it, though I did have to send the dead one back much to my chagrin. I'd have liked to have kept the bulb holder.

A little bit artifacty? Don't really remember. Don't really care. It's a nice, fifteen or twenty degree blast of light that, for an E series, is shockingly bright and leaves me utterly satisfied. There isn't one iota of my soul that might wish this one was just a little bit brighter, or anything like that. Runtime suffers, naturally, but I'm okay with charging it up nightly to keep this glorious beast running.

Edit: not ringy or artifacty at all, having turned it on once again.

Dearly wishing for a Leef 18650 E-head body to run one of these on the new AW IMR 18350. 25% more runtime in the same (more or less) footprint? Yes please.

I have an IMR-E2, acquired during CPF's downtime. I absolutely love it! It's amazingly bright, and the beam quality is great. I also keep a HO-E2R around for longer runtimes on the same cells, but most of the time the IMR gets used.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I wanted to ask if anybody has any experience with the E2 in a Vital Gear FB2, I'm kinda afraid of ruining the tailcap as it's 1.2A max???.

Thanks

Will the standard E2 tailcap switch handle the extra current from an IMR cell, and are there lamps for 1 x IMR 17670, or only 2 x IMR 16340 cells?

I've only used primaries and "standard" RC123s/18650s but do find the idea of an outrageously bright E2 rather appealing, even it only has about what, 15 mins of runtime?

About 15 minutes, tops. Run it conservatively, and your IMRs will serve you long, in addition to well.

Nothing for 1x IMR cell yet save maybe a 120-lumen Strion bulb in a Fivemega adapter.

The standard E2 tailcaps aren't really rated for it, but I've yet to have a problem with either generation 2 or 4 (latest = 4 at present). Both are used for short bursts, but generally with a pocket M3, you only need a quick burst to see what you're looking for, do your deed, and finish.

Another quick question, afaik the imr-e2 discharges 2A, would it be safe to use 2 AW16340 that handle max 1.5A, I normally don't use 2C setups or incans, but I would imagine that a 2A discharge with 2 cells should work ok no?

Thanks

Still using mine in an E2e with Z52 as my main edc when the weather allows me to wear a coat. Used it to do some stuff under the hood the other day. Boy that sucker gets hot fast. I love having that tactical level beam though, what a pocket rocket.
