It is the potting compound that they use when they install the globe into the PR base. As you said, the ROP high (3854H) is known for doing this.
This can cause the lens/reflector to become coated with the smoke. You can either bake the bulbs in the oven at low temperature to dry the compound out or run them in the mag without reflector/lens until the smoke stops. Make sure you put a glass jar over the head of the light if you use the second method in case anything goes
with the bulb.

I was using a potted 1331, no wonder. Mayby inhaling the smoke would get me into a state of transcendence incandesance.

No we have a formal training program with which one who is sufficiently motivated starts with waxing our cars. The mind must be quiet to move into the state of transcendental incandescence. You must master photonic chaos.
