aside from surefre and the standard caving lights that i use, i liked the way the inova bolt and xo is made plus the beam patern is just right, not to spoty or too much flood, i read the reviews of these lights in the forum before i went out to buy them. i liked the way the lights feels in my hand although i encountered some issues with the bolt series.
here is the email i sent to inova:
hi, my name is xavier, i would like to find out if the inova bolt 3a and the X0 are designed for an extended operation. im a cave guide and i do notice that the bezel and a good 90% of the body of these lights heats up a little after a few minutes, will the heat damage the LED or any of the electronics inside if i continue to run these lights for straight 7 to 8 hours changing batteries when needed?thanks so much
i never got an answer from inova so i figured if i post it here maybe you guys will be able to help me answer this question. plus the bolt 3A i got,.. for testing purposes i left it on til the battry is drained(about 2 1/2 hours), the flashlight is warm to touch and when i opened the tailcap to replace the battery i noticed a good amount of grayish liquid oozing out of the tube (not sure what that liquid is though, cant tell if its from the battery) but it caked the tailcap, the contact and the inner part of the tube with thin layer of im not sure if its aluminum oxide. i had to scrape the contact clean to get it to light again (its a good thing i left it standing on its tail otherwise i will have to find a tool to clean the contact in the inner most part of the tube if it was lying down). anyone here had the same experience with this? since the battery of the xo is expensive i didnt attempt to do any thing to test its performace exept to leave it on for about 15 minutes which made the bezel heat up a little.
