Amazon.com has this 6V rechargeable battery for $8.97 and it looks like it would work in my inexpensive 6V spot light. It's also available for $18.94 with a wall charger. What concerns should I have about trying this? Would it just be like a regular 6V battery such as a Duracell or Energizer? Why do it? I thought it might be good to have a rechargeable light since I've never tried one. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions from you guys. Thanks.

I use sealed rechargeble SLA 6 volt batteries. Radio shack sells them, as well as PowerSonic on the high scale end. They have the same characteristics of other sealed lead acid batteries. The Alkaline 6 volt batteries have the ability to retain capacity for an extended period. The sealed lead acid batteries need re-charging every few months if not used.

They do not last if you regularly deep discharge the cells. Concerning chargers, I use a PowerSonic Float charger for 6 volt batteries for the 5AH range. These chargers apply a fast charge then when the battery reaches capacity goes into "float" to maintain the battery. I personally would not use a dumb charger without "float".

There are applications that are appropriate for 5AH 6volt sealed lead battery. I use them in low current draw uses such as frequently used 6 volt lanterns using fluorescent or LEDs.

That also means that its important how much of these will sell: If they are kept in store for too long without charging, the forming of sulphates will definitely decrease capacity!!

So, I think you cannot tell anyting about its quality before you test it yourself..
