Is this a good test for anal retentiveness?

I feel sloppy and remiss if I don't line all my cells up in the charger so the logo's are all showing, especially "Eneloop" logo's. I tried just blindly inserting them randomly any old way, but I ended up rotating them all facing forward. Am I alone in my illness?

I'm OK with chargers...but storage in plastic cases, I make sure that the battery # shows up (I guess it has a practical reason too).

One thing I cannot stand is not having the button on my 3D Mag centered when it is in the mounting brackets...

I rotate the batteries so the seam is outwards. This helps them fit more securely in the slot and gives better contact with the temperature sensors. Plus it gives me a rational justification for making them all line up the same way...

Turbo ,

You're doing that subconsciously as a visual verification that you have not reversed a cell .

OCD .... in your case ... means " Orderly Cell Direction".

Many of us do it .... it makes the cells charge evenly to equal levels .

It also makes the "wife" .... roll her eyes in dis-belief and walk away shaking her head .

.

You guys are so sad... but they do look nicer when all lined up "properly". I also use the orientation to differentiate different sets if I'm charging them at the same time, so I don't mix them up.

I line mine up so I can see the little minus sign at the end. Then I check them twice. Then I just have to go back and check them again. And sometimes again.........

I'm the same way, but it doesn't end with batteries, im that way with pretty much everything in life and I bet everyone else that does it with batteries is the same way with other things in their life that they value.

I don't think of it as being anal. It just shows that you're not careless and have more appreciation than the average person for things that you value. I bet that you know people that buy stuff and it ends up getting destroyed b/c they don't take care of it, but the stuff you buy lasts for years and years b/c you take care of it and understand how to use it properly.

I'll admit, I do place cells in the charger with my "Sharpied" numbers facing up, but I always give them a slight twist to ensure good contact with the charger contacts, so that always screws them up anyway. You'd think I knew what cells I was putting in the charger before I put them in, wouldn't you? :)

I do place cells in their translucent cases so that I can see the numbers.

I heard an old myth that if you rotate the batteries 180* half way through the charging cycle that you can get more charge cycles out of the battery. I knew some one that worked for the power station and part of their job was to was to rotate the batteries 1/2 way through the charging cycle, the battery cells were 8" in diameter. I am not sure if this helps out small batteries especially with the new technology but I always line the batteries logo up in the charger then rotate them 1/2 way through the charging cycle. I believe this does help with charging my NIMH 6 cell RC batteries because they become very hot but are noticeable cooler on the bottom. I also move the battery packs when I flip them so they have a cool place on the table to dissipate their heat.

I would expect the bottom to be warmer because it's closer to the charger's circuitry? Anyways, there's nothing to lose for trying, but my batteries tend to be about the same temperature top and bottom...

+1...

Except now I find myself doing it with the gadget they're going into as well.

I tell myself it's pure chance that the seams in the gadget also end up at twelve o'clock, 'cause I'm just rotating the cells to minimize contact resistance.

Regrettably, my therapist isn't buying it, even with my money...

See? you just made my day.

I thought I was the only nut who did this... lovecpf

You're quite right. I don't understand how (for example) some families can just leave their (kids') bikes lying outside in wet grass overnight instead of just looking after them and putting them inside when not being used. Do they ever wonder why they go rusty so quickly? :sigh: Yes, looking after batteries is a good thing, and lining up the Eneloop logos in the charger makes the charger look better too.

I just checked this ... In the storage boxes, they are sorted, by make and size, but not with the logos all pointing the same way.

In the charger, the cells are rotated just to give a better connection, but they do seem to end up with the logos etc perfectly matched ... I don't know how this comes about, as it is not done consciously or deliberately.

Strange !

"What an interesting group of people you associate with..."

A comment from my wife on Turbo DV8 being "neat and tidy." Please don't be offended Turbo, she says a lot nastier things when she comments on some of my behaviors...

Well, I've seen here that some people line the logo's up in the storage cases, or the charger, or some people line up the identifying S/N's they've penned on the cell. So I really think there's no hope for me to have a normal life because I penned the S/N's on my Eneloops so they were at the bottom of the "P" so I could have both the S/N and logo lined up at the same time in both charger and storage cases!

I always... rotate them 1/2 way through the charging cycle.

Now, that does sound OCD! But then, I live in a glass house, so I'll shut up on that...

I knew some one that worked for the power station and part of their job was to was to rotate the batteries 1/2 way through the charging cycle.

Now I'll know next time our power company files for a rate increase exactly what type of program is spawning the rate hike. "We had to hire on some CPA's... Certified Power Angulators."
