is this charger any good

hmmm what do the users say ?
often overheats the batteries melting off the plastic labels on the batteries

get a good one so you don't BURN DOWN YOUR HOUSE...peels off the covering on the battery it gets so hot.

sounds like a real winner, plus it isnt a single channel charger according to the users.

we dont need no stinking labels

i have thier 1 hour AA only charger, it is Fast and mean, and charges in series, all Wrong, but it has its applications

yea, i read that one too. thanks for answering. i kinda knew the answer already. :ohgeez:

guess i'll spend the extra $20 and get a c9000.

Good call.

I would always steer clear of those chargers where you have to charge the batteries in pairs. What a PITA.

Don't do what I did and buy 3 or 4 cheaper chargers before ending up with a decent one that monitors each channel individually. You will be saving yourself a lot of money and hassle by forking out the extra $20 for a good one now.

[SUGGESTION] To Attract a Wider Audience, BE MORE SPECIFIC!

First, a suggestion (and a personal 'NIT'):
  1. Title: is this charger any good
    - *WHAT* charger?
    .
  2. Body:
is this charger worth messing with?
    - Again, **WHAT** charger?
    .
  3. LINK: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062130
    - Yet one more time, ***WHAT*** charger???
IMHO, many folks 'possibly' WITH the knowledge that you desire AREN'T going to go too far out of their way to find out *WHAT* you're talking about. To get responses from as wide an audience as possible, BE MORE SPECIFIC:
  1. Title: Is the RadioShack 43-428 Universal Ni-Cd/Ni-MH Battery Charger any good?
    .
  2. Body: Is the RadioShack 43-428 Universal Ni-Cd/Ni-MH Battery Charger worth messing with?
    .
  3. LINK: RadioShack 43-428 Universal Ni-Cd/Ni-MH Battery Charger

is this charger worth messing with?
Yes! ;)

IMO, you need to evaluate the SOURCE of the review. IME, I find *MANY* reviews on 'Non-Technical' sites tend to review based on EMOTION (ONE STAR - the UPS driver LEFT the ripped-open package on my porch!) / lack-of-understanding rather than actual experience.

i.e. HIGH INTERNAL RESISTANCE (non-vibrant / unhealthy / inexpensive / CHEAP / badly-treated / neglected / CRAP) cells charged at HIGH CURRENT *ARE* always going to OVERHEAT!

hey if you want to buy my "1Hr" radio shack 8x AA charger, i will sell it to you for $20 + shipping. and then you can be the source.
but no refunds, dont come crying to me when it makes a good space heater.
it terminates the cells every charge :)
