Hi all, new to all this and not technical at ALL. Need a light for my road bike, when i get carried away and forget to go in direction of home/wife/kids.
Have been on this site and more confused now than before.

Seen this on ebay 260574374945

It looks brilliant and he seems to know his stuff, but its ebay! Its only £45 for the full kit and people on here seem to say spend $100 or make it yourself.
Are these Cree XP-G r5 as good as he says if not what else can i get for this kind of money?
Long winded sorry and thanks for any help.

have a look at dealextreme they do the same lights i think and they have free worldwide shipping. It looks like an ebay reseller again! i have used a two r2 unit for a project light and works well in both single and double modes.

The units state 250 so they will be less powerful than the 350 but i don't think that there will be much in it.

Good luck

:welcome:

This might be of interest from the "is it as good as he says" angle. Likely not given ebay hyperbole but decent and useable:

Those are about 180 lumens together. The R5's will be floodier and should easily get 180 lumens each out the front. I use 6 XP-G's on half power, so effectively three on full and they are overkill on lit streets. Great on unlit country roads. YMMV.

its ok for the seller to "earn" about 10-15 Pounds, but why dont You order it for Yourself from
www.dealextreme.com ?

21,-- light with exactly that insert: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32749,
9,-- 2 accu cells: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5790
14,-- charger: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1251
1,-- adapter: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3529
3,-- bike holder: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.24355

PS: I dont like aspherics, nor do I like zooming lights, it does not feature the newest led, or multilevel,
but the beam from that optic makes no spill light at all --> no blinding of oncoming traffic.

Consider adding a cheap 200-250lm light for the helmet.

Lots of choices for lights in that range that use the 18650 batteries.

Here's what I have:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12000 Universal Nylon Mount for Flashlights and Lasers
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15335 TrustFire TR-801 Cree Q5-WC 5-Mode Memory 230-Lumen LED Flashlight (1*18650)

After reading about the chargers, I preferred this one:

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.6105 Digital Li-Ion 18650 Battery Charger

Make sure to read up on Li-Ion batteries and heed the warnings.

I was surprised how much I really like a helmet light; I can point it in any direction. It's useful for pointing 90 degrees from direction of travel, ie at cars on cross streets.

There is a good forum for lights on mtbr.com.

Would you recomend that for the helmet or just 2 of the xp-g r5 (handlebar and helmet) or is it too bright?
The concern with the lithuim is it the age concern and the protection. If not them what would be best? Also I have loads of chargers for aa batteries ( dont laugh) whats the difference?
