I have acquired a Jetbeam as above but the LED is black - at first I thought it was a red LED or an IR but when on high - the beam is a very dark yellow/orange and is barely visible.

I have asked the person from whom i purchased why this was not disclosed and if it is still under warranty etc but is this a known problem and can it be resolved.

Not sure how cool Jetbeams CS is - their technical operators guide is complete pants IMHO but that does not mean the CS is the same.

Voices of experience would be appreciated.

Many thanks

This sucks. Did you get this off CPFMarketplace?

Sorry - no - Nothing to do with the CPF bud. It was a shooting forum and I have since spoken to seller.

He bought from Heinnie Haynes and I understand that it should still be under warranty so there is hope. He says he had not noticed so I will give him the benefit of the doubt but to be honest, I can't see how as it looks like it has a very thick orange filter on it. There is a very faint hint of yellow around what looks like a very small sized R2 pill but it looks black.

He has called Heinnie in the UK and they are tracing the transaction and getting back to him.

However, I have read a number of posts where Jetbeams relaibility has been called into question so I wanted some user feedback as to wehter this is a phenomonen.

He has been using Ultrafire BRC 18650 3000mah batteries that are stated as being protected so not sure if this may be the reason why the LED is toastr or if it was just one of those things ?

Personally I use AW 18650's at 2200 and they have done me proud to date.

Any one with any ideas please.

Thanks

I got one also from a member at CPFMP who advertised it as "Pristine" I've seen him buy/sell at CPFMP a number of times, so I know he should know that a flashlight is screwed up. The problem with the RRT-1 is Jetbeam has a 9mm hole beneath the 16mm LED board. To prevent the thermal adhesive from spilling into the guts of the light they use little thermal adhesive. Result, The LED board will seperate from the base and cook. Personally having expierienced a number of defective design problems, and Unethical behavior (changing the manual to make the defect appear normal) I wouldn't touch JetBeam.

OK thanks.

That seems a bit of an unecessary hole ? Is there anyone one can approach to mod this light as the rotary power ring is a feature I like?

If it gets exchanged maybe I will sell it as it will be new and under a new warranty.

Why is the hole so big..........this is punted as a military tactical ? I am a little sceptical if there is not enough therm glue to hold it and prevent he LED for toasting !

This is exactly why I've decided not to purchase more Jetbeam flashlights. It's hardly a robust design to not have adequate thermal heatsinking for high output flashlights. While I haven't personally seen many threads about cooked Jetbeam LEDs here at CPF, I worry about the longevity of the emitters for the years to come.

While I enjoy the IBS of the M1X and Jet-III M, the selector rings of the RRT-1 and RRT-2; these flashlights won't ever be far from a backup and because of that won't make it to a B.O.B.

Improve your designs Jetbeam! :poke:
