Hello I'm new to the forum and sure you flishlight nuts can help me these questions :)

My buddy gave me his hellfire x8 light and surefire 6z for weapon mount. I decided to use the surefire 6z for my ar15 because i like using the hellfire as a handheld edc light haha.

From looking around this surefire 6z is the old tailcap model that says "surefire laser products fountain valley, ca"

The question. Will this body work with other parts made for like the P series? Everything i find says 6p, 9p, g 2z, ect... Compatible, but not 6z. Basically, are the threads the same??

I want to put an led light..probably a kx4d. Also a pressure switch tailcap i can disconnect quickly to remove the light mount from my rifle.. Which i had the solarforce pts3 in mind, but if the surefire xm07 works i'd rather do that

Any custom combo reccomendations like the malkoff m60?

The 6Z has been discontinued, but it shares the same threads as the current 6P, 9P, C2, C3 (etc) lights. A KX4D will work fine on your 6Z. The 6Z is the predecessor to the current Z2, but lacks the Lock-Out TailCap. Note that the KX4 (and KX4D...) is a complete, sealed head. If you want to change to a third-party, P60-based solution (the Malkoff M60, for example) at a later date, you'll need to keep the old 6Z bezel and use that with it. I don't have any experience with particular third-party offerings, but plenty of CPFers will be able to help you in that respect.

As for the pressure switch, the XM07 will work. If you're not planning on using the XM07 and want to carry on using it as a handheld light, I'd strongly recommend you purchase a Lock-Out TailCap such as the Z41 or Z49.

Oh okay cool.

So what if i get a bezel from like oveready.com? Will that work with a malkoff light?

In terms of the head, the vintage bezel will work with all the same drop ins the current Z44 bezel will work with it. What it won't work with are lens and bezel ring upgrades. Not a big deal. Just replace the lens if its beat up/scratched.

In terms of the tail, the vintage tailcap will work with a variety of battery and drop in combinations the current Z41 tailcap will work with. What it won't work with are switch upgrades, including the McClicky. If you want a tape switch, this won't matter.

Bottom line: if all you want to change are cells and light engines, you're good to go.

Have a look at that body. Notice that there's only a little ring at the tail end that's 1" across?

You won't find mounting rings for the 6Z for a weaponlight.

I recommend using the Hellfire X8 on the rifle, and upgrading the lovely vintage 6Z for your pocket light.

I have a 9Z of similar vintage, and I used it happily with a Malkoff M60 for a good while there before I switched things up and made it my dedicated "glass breaking at midnight" light.

Failing that, find someone to swap a 6P or ScoutLight for your light; both will do much better in the rifle-mounted role. (The ScoutLight sacrifices some versatility, but has a built-in mount and is lighter; the 6P fits 1" scope rings)

I agree with ElectronGuru's bottom line.

Mounting is not an issue, but i realized i would put 100$ in upgrade to make it work.

I suppose i can go with the hellfire pressure tailcap + mount for $60 or spend the $120 and get a surefire m951 kit02

The price isnt much of a difference i suppose, plus id have 2 hand lights haha. I could swll the 6z...i checked ebay and one went for $60

Thanks
