I just unpacked my new Surefire L1 CREE (Thanks Battery Junction). Initially I was skeptical of the press for momentary, twist for constant-on switch as I am quite fond of my E1B's forward clicky. Well my skepticism proved unwarranted as I really like the L1 UI. Very intuitive: soft press for low, mash the button for high. Twist the tailcap a bit for constant low, twist it more for high. The L1 also feels really nice in my hand. It's going to be my EDC for a few days (supplanting my E1B) as I am anxious to see how it rides in my front pants pocket. Next up is a new 6P with a Malkoff M60 drop-in which should arrive next week. Not exactly sure what I want to add to the collection after that. Perhaps a new NovaTac?

Thanks! I carried an E2E for a couple of years before I decided to order two Fenix lights a few months ago (P2D CE and P1D CE). I decided that I liked the LED-based lights better than the incandescent E2E so the Surefire became my wife's EDC and the Fenix lights rode in my front pocket. Then I noticed the Surefire Backup reviews posted on this forum and I decided that I had to have one. Once I received the E1B the floodgates were officially open! The Fenix lights are nice, but there is something about the Surefires that really float my boat. Now I need to convince myself that I don't need an E1L as its functionality is largely duplicated by the E1B and L1 that I already have. Wish me luck.:D

I use my L1 as my hand out light, everyone can figure out how to make light come out. My novatac keeps people confused, but I love it. Guess that's what makes me a flashaholic.

I know exactly how you feel...

The switch on L1 isn't as bad as I thought. I can hold the tailcap with my little finger against palm and twist the body of light with thumb and index finger, so it operates more of less like a side buttoned flashlight.

The UI for the L1/L2/A2 is so intuitive I oftentimes wonder if it even *qualifies* as a "UI", due to it's extreme simplicity, "press for light, press harder for more light", lights like the Novatac/HDS EDC and the Fenix Digital series, with their multiple clicks/twists definitely do have a UI, for sheer simplicity and user-freindliness, the L1/L2/A2 setup is the gold standard for dual-level lights, I can hand an L1/A2 to someone, tell them to press the tailcap for light, and they'll figure out the two levels almost instantly

A flashlight shouldn't need a users manual to figure it out.....
