I'm doing a complete remodel of the kitchen and relocating all of the appliances and adding over and under cabinet lighting. I know I'll have LED lighting under the cabinets but am wondering if fluorescent be better for above the cabinets.

If fluorescent, are there any that have no humming from the ballast like the T12 type?

For the LED under cabinet portion, I'm leaning towards SMD5050 tri-chip with 300 emitters per 5 meter strip.

Look for T-8 or T-5 bulbs with an electronic ballast. Avoid no-name Chinese fixtures.

I'm using LEDs on top as well as the bottom, I'm happy with the results

I went with T5's. I will most likely use the same for upper cabinet lighting.

I have been looking for lighting exactly like that. It looks great in your kithcen. Thanks for posting the picture!

I like those looks.

Where did you source the fixtures? were they part of the initial build?

I would like to do 3x to 6x bridgelux chips under each cabinet- would be around 1000 lumens and probably way beyond over kill...

It seems like all the T4, T5's on the web come from the same factory. The best priceing I found was from pegasuslighting. While the drywall was down, I had all the wiring roughed in so I could wire in the lights after the cabinets were hung.

I looked into using LED lighting but it was beyond my abilities.

BTW, 1000 lumens may not be overkill. Some of my fixtures run higher than that and you can run a dimmer if need be.
