i will make the bold statement of 1hr runtime with moon mode thereafter.

Just running off the math lets take a look. If it is truly pulling 5w that is very close to the P60, the P60 is 5.1w. Now I would guess with regulation (I'm pretty sure the KL4 is regulated) I would add about another .5w so maybe 5.5w total. So if that is the case my guess is we are looking at right about 1 hour total. It also depends on where the low voltage cutoff is.

So my GUESS would be between 50 and 60 min, similar to the A2?

How about KL4 on an E2, E2e with 123 extender = 9 volts?
KL1 will run on 9 volts (UBH). Bill

Thats what I'm guessing too.
Underdrive it to play the "longer battery life" marketing angle.
One of my buddies got to play with a proto last week. He said it was very impressive.

This might help...my 5W NexNeedle by MrBulk has a runtime of about 75 minutes on 3x123 batteries. Direct drive I think.

[/ QUOTE ] that's sf's status quo i beleive. i hope they make it as bright as they can for 1hr then moon mode.

Does any one have a 'guess' on the cost of a KL4?
$100? $150? ?????? I want one, but I need to start my saving stash now.

Looking forward to it's arrival.

Yah seriously! I'm getting hella antsy waiting for this thang. I must be the last multi-SF owner who doesn't actually own an E2/E2e. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif I'm waiting for the KL4 to be my excuse to get one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

What Don said. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif

B1, to start saving now is not a bad idea (even though I don't know how much it will be). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

yea...what k-t said.

i would highly doubt they drive it at the full 5w...even if they use an integrated heatsink, at that size, it would be hot to run.

my guess is somewhere around the 3-4w range...

It's reasonable to say that SureFire have invested R&D into 5W Luxeons so they will know what they can achieve in each size/form factor.

If you power the KL4 with three SF123As then I'd say it's at your own risk. The KL4 is designed and intended for the E2(e).

The "KL4" head I made (1"dia x 1" long, BB750mA, no fins) gets a solid hour on 2x 123. Gets hot too. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am reasonably certain that the KL4 is a boost circuit only. 3x123 will be over Vf and the KL4 will be in Hawaiian "Give 'em Bra" mode, A.K.A. Mr. B's DD.

I also believe the KL4 will be driven at over 90% of spec and un attended run time tests will likely provide you with a soup warmer.

So, KL5 will be for 9P, C type lights, and could run with two or three 123's. Remember, KL1 was similar circuity to KL3, and could run 2 or 3 123's. Maybe KL4,5 will be similar and both able to run 3 123's. Bill

Bullzeyebill,

My money is on the equation KL4 + 3x123= DD .
