So I have this 2C Maglite laying around and I want to mod it. Now I've been reading here a bunch and I have a few questions.

What is the approximate life of the 112 and the 118?

Is there a definite advantage to the 118 or 112?

How long will 3 CR123A LiONs last in this mod?

I just did this mod with CR123As (not LiONs). I blew out an HP50, 2 KPR113s, and a KPR112.

The KPR118 seems to work well.

I used 3/4" CPVC pipe with electrical tape to center it for the battery tube. A blue shop towel piece keeps rattle down. I soldered a cut down #10 button head screw to the spring to make contact with the negative terminal (make sure to file the mating surfaces).

Edit: Rated hours are from the original Ratshack package

KPR 113 is 4.8V with a rated life of 15 hours, no overdrive. With fresh cells you're almost double the rated voltage. Poof, indeed.

KPR 112 is 6.0V with a non-overdriven rated life of 15 hours. Considering the resistance of most Mags this is a nice combination. Never tested the actual lifespan of a bulb in this configuration though.

KPR 118 is 7.2V so while it will indeed withstand the voltage of 3 123s it will not be as white as a 112.

The HP50 is a 5.2V is not a good candidate to push. I flashed one at 7.4V with 2 well rested 18650s.

I've run a 2C Mag with both the 112 & 113 on both primaries and 18650s. In fact I have currently have one set up in each configuration. This is a nice little everday user mod that doesn't require a whole lot of expenditure for new reflectors, battery carriers or lenses. Although I do have glass lenses in both, but only for reduced scratches.
