Just got my L6, thanks Dan!! But I have to say that I'm a bit dissapointed.... It seems to thow less than my A2's incan and is not noticably brighter than my L4. The beam pattern is great, with a soft flood and a great hotspot in the middle, but it's just not very bright. I tried putting in fresh batteries with no change in brightness. Anyone else seeing anything similar? I expected at least A2 incan throw and brightness for the L6.

Yes, after looking at several luxeon lights I have determined that they are always going to be "different". Incan's don't look like or have the beam profile of an LED and vise-versa.

It does appear from my tests that the KL6 and KL4 put out the same light, just in a different pattern.

I'm not dissapointed with my L6, heck, I haven't even been outside in the dark with it for 5 minutes yet!

Time will tell.

BTW, I really interested in the run-time of the L6. Someone needs to test this. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was just out playing with mine, comparing it to my 6P\P61. The L6 was holding its own, although definition of objects was a just a little better with the 6P at the far reaches of throw.

VERY impressive light.

I took mine out on a friends back deck two stories up and lit up the side of a house two streets over it was a fairly wide beam at that distance, just slightly less total light than my G2/P61 put on it.For within his yard a ARC LSH-P and E1e/KL1 illuminated fairly equally, the KL1 a definite purple tint to it compared to the ARC which has a creamy white color but the L6 makes every thing else look "off" it is the cleanest beam I have seen.I am still somewhat of a newbie concerning LED and color wavelengths but my L6 is excellent for color for my eyes.

The peak candela output of my newly arrived L6 is about 1600 which is less than some measured with the L5.

I need to wait for a bit to get the kids in bed before I go out and play. It throws a bit farther than the TL-3 LED and the L4, but it is not the killer light I had expected.

At least this is my first impression.

The SNII blows away the L6, but beam quality, and color tint the L6 wins. That being said I sold my SNII because it didnt have a tailcap, didnt use it much and was a little bit too ''Bulky'' /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif for me. I would think Surefire kept the brightness of the KL series down to increase service life as their products are covered forever. Give it some time, im sure someone will mod the KL6.

I'm starting to get worried guys. All the hype of this large-looking monster has given me very high expectations. My L6 hasn't even arrived yet and I'm already having doubts.

Ray - fear not. As soon as it arrives, don't even bother opening it. Reduce your price by 25%, ship it to me, and we'll all come out ahead.

I suspect that you'll enjoy the L6 more than you're thinking now. But then I've been wrong before...

CUT-OFF!!!

Seriously I suspect the KL6 is to the M3 what the KL1/3 was to the Ex and 6/9P series. A fairly bright and white LED alternative to the stock incandescent beam (and no LA to replace, ever). I am sure it will grow on you, as it will me (if I ever get one, that is)... Hey Paul, you readin' this?! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

No, don't cut him off. He sold it to me and I am very grateful! I love it! I have it shrouded in one of those nite-eyz strap carriers and have an anti-roll cover on it to protect almost every inch of exposed surface. I rides with me in my vehicle and has already WOWED quite a few people. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My thoughts precisely.

Define "brightness" for us. For total light output, the KL4,5,6 are equal. Beam focus is the big differentiator between the three, and many confuse (perceive?) a tight beam to be brighter light. When you measure Lumens, they are all the same. Use the ceiling bounce test to compare "true" brightness which is the total Lumen output.

CM,

I believe that the KL4,5 and 6 progressively have a higher current going to the LED. Certainly the Luminous output will not be proportionally greater but it should increase from each model up. I also believe that the parabolic surface is very similar in all three cases; certainly between the KL5 and KL6. The reflectors just get progressively deeper so more of the light is managed by the reflector as you step up. This results in an increase in redirected light and a tightening and concentration of the spill light as you move up to the next head.
