Was exited to get myself a Leef/SF lego light......but then I got my calculator and thought of my wife's reaction......before I will push the buy button and takes my chances I want to find out a cheaper alternative. I am thinking of a 2x C Mag-Lite with a 10mm extender ring, 2x AW C Li-Ion cells.......My question is what lamp would fit this set-up and would give between 500 to 1000 bulb lumens.

Try a WA1185 bulb aka Mag85 mod
the only thing with this is that the stock reflector and plastic cover would need to be replaced, also a Five mega potted Bulb socket will be needed

Here are the specs for the bulb

the only thing that for it to be a true mag85 the bulb is overdriven some times

by looking @ this chart by the mighty luxluthor

This tells how much the bulb can handle and most of the outputs

Just had a look at the WA1164 Bulb and looks more towards your required voltage

only downside is its more lumen's that you have requested
Hope this helps
Thanks

sounds like you want to build a ROPLE. Just take a Pelican big D SLA bulb set (like $7 if I recall), combine with a pair of li-ion cells, AWs Cs should work fine, and I think they are about the only protected li-ion cells on the market that light up an ROP without any problems whatsoever (but I could be wrong about that)... also throw in your extender ring, and a glass lens and aluminum reflector, and you are set to go. Total price should be around the $100 region.... the advantage of the ROP build is that you get a high power bulb that is already potted, no need for a bi-pin adapter, so you save some bucks there.

Sounds good......I can get the cells and extender from AW, that's easy, however, being a factory flashlight sort of a guy, where would I get "bits" like the glass lens, aluminium reflector and the Pelican big D SLA bulb set?......and must not forget, where is a good place to get the Mag-Lite 2x C flashlight from?

oh didnt even think of the ROP mod

man i just placed an order with five mega if you got in a little earlier could of combinded postage on the items

anyway Fire mega is good for the glass, rop bulb and the metal reflector
but i think hes out of stock but im interested if ya gonna get some ;)

i think he has 2 left so you might need to be abit quick

Looks like I will be getting the WA1111 lamp for the 2x C Li-ion Maglite outfit, any idea what sort of output and run time this will work out to?

The best source is Home Depot in the US, in person. They have 2-3 colors of 2C's in stock at most times, for around $15.
