Thought I had my first battery blow up. 2 sony cycle energy nimh AAs in a ld20 accidentally left on turbo for over 40 min. Found it pretty warm and the on/off switch rubber boot was balooned and I heard air escaping when I pushed. Took it ouside. Let it cool and unscrewed it carefully. Heard some air escape.

What I found? No damage, no leak, no blow up, no smell (after I let it air out). I popped the sonys back in, work just fine.

My theory? Hot air expanding? Sound right?

I'm not so sure about that...

I know I've seen some topics on here about Fenix lights getting an inflated tail cap before, but it's been a while.

yeah, from battery venting :poke:

Yep, I've noticed that mine tends to discharge the first (head-most) battery first. Last time I checked to see if they needed recharging, the first cell was 1.07v, the second was 1.16v, they both went in at ~1.38v.

Gas does expand when heated, and there isn't much room for it to expand in a flashlight, but there also isn't much gas in the light to begin with.

It's possible it vented a bit, it could be that it got hot enough to create a small amount of positive pressure. When in doubt through the cell on a smart charger and do a cycle to measure capacity charge and more importantly discharge.

I'm gonna buy a volt meter and do a recycle in my charger on both cells.

Probably just throw away the cells.

Noticed the same on my TK11 RCRs!
