I am a sophomore in high school, and I am not very experienced with lighting, however, I am interested in it. This may be a bit hard to follow, but please bare with me.

I can't think of what they're called, but they can be seen in recording studios and such. It's basically a bunch of lights (green, then orange, then yellow, then red) that let you know when the volume on a track is too loud or something of the sort. I would like to create something like that but instead measure pitch in a song (the higher the note, the higher it is on the line of lights).

Questions I have are:

Is there any way to control each light individually and then play it back with the song at a different time?

If so, what programs are there that could help with this?

How would I connect and wire such a light board?

Should I refer to DJ lights and questions instead?

Once again, I sincerely apologize for all the confusion. I, myself, am extremely confused as well as to what to ask and how to explain it.

Kinda of bummer nobody has replied to your thread after 2 days :thumbsdow

Anyway, in an attempt to answer your question, I'd have to say that what your describing would be an equalizer.
If your talking about a device witch its soul purpose is to light up based on the volume/tone of music; I dont know the exact name of this, but I do know what your talking about. I've seen them commonly used in cars where every time the bass kicks, the inside lights light up.
I think your better off buying it, making it would require experience in DC circuitry and soldernig, witch would be impossible for you to make without said skills.

oh, and :welcome:

Thank you for the great suggestions! I actually learned today that the "thing" I was referring to is called an Audio Spectrum Analyzer. I guess it doesn't have too much to do with an equalizer, but as I said, I am an amateur with this stuff.

Basically, I'm looking to make this ASA into an APA, or Audio Pitch Analyzer. As the notes get higher, as do the lights. I want to create this for each individual track (bass, guitar(s), vocals, keys, drums, et cetera) and make into one big table. Now that I have my base, I'm sure my project will come along much easier than before.

Thanks again! And any additional help / warnings you may have, please list them. That would most likely be great help!

pretty sure there are ready made solutions for modders, at least ICs that can do that and You have to add all the other parts.

maybe try www.national.com, or the other big enterprise for this (just cant remember the name. Something like "LT" in logo)
