I am looking for a solution to my lighting needs: Sometimes I get off-road and need to maneuver back and forth or need area lighting for camping. I'd like an LED module because of the low battery drainage and it needs to be sealed or sealable with RTV or hot glue. I need more flood lighting, not spot or throw. Is there anything around $50 that puts out enough light in flood? :candle:
Thanks!

See my sig and PM me. I'll give you a deal.

Cool - just saw those. what kind of optics are you using. It looks like you have a very very strange beam pattern - looks like a bulls eye - Hot, then dark, then hot again in the middle.

I have been looking for an LED area light for my jeep for a long time, something like the side facing "scene lights" we have on our fire trucks. i was pretty excited when i got an email the other day from SoundOff Signal, who i buy my strobes from, they are making a compact MCE scene/alley light called the Mighty Night Light i think it might fit the bill for your need too, only its a little pricey at $100 a lighthead but i expect the price will come down after a while.

Those look difficult to mount. Only one of them appears to have holes to work with. I'll keep them in mind though. Thank you :)

That's very pricey and it appear to be intended to mount flatly. clint357's light can be positioned in any direction, as an example of the mounting I would probably need.

I haven't yet decided how I'm going to mount the lights in the first place, but I've considered magnetic flat mounts to the tailgate (good for backing up, bad for camp lighting), or a home-grown arm clamped to the SnugTop's track or to a [future] roof basket. RAM mounts are expensive, but that may be the most versatility and articulation for the money.

Those S.O.S. lights from the above link look pretty cool. But I don't see prices.:duh2:

Anyone have any experience with them? Good heatsinking, weatherproofing, etc.?

Yeah, I actually need to put the site on hold for a while until I get it updated. I've got a 27mm reflector going into a 38mm condenser, but I'm going to put a flat window on the front in place of the condenser for a more even beam. Sometime soon I'm going to make another one slightly larger with an SST-50, 50mm DX OP reflector, and a choice of flat window, aspheric, or euro aspheric. I expect that light to have a very smooth and bright beam. That's a couple months out though.

The item below is a LED light strip by Acolyte LED It is 50 Superflux LEDs mounted in a strip that is about one inch wide by thirty inches long. It is robust and fully sealed against the elements. I think you'd have trouble getting it for $50 though.

Hi guys-

Check out this lamp:

http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200390342_200390342

Its more money, but its a flood light and would be equivalent to a 35W halogen lamp.

We (the company I work for) manufacture work lights/off road lighting that is sold to OEMs for construction, mining, material handling, forestry and now have some aftermarket distributors. We have Halogen, HID and now are into LEDs.

We don't sell direct to end users and would like people to buy through the few distribution channels we have set up.

Just trying to help you guys find a good light for your application.

If you need/want more info PM me, I don't want to hijack this thread.

That's also only 135 lumes, and not protected from the elements.
Just to clarify, I think you were posting about the item in Ken_McE's post, not Whineyweim's - is that correct?

Also, in case anyone thinks Whineyweim is breaking the rules on advertising with his post, I can confirm that he consulted me about it first, and I am satisfied that his post is in order.

Hey clint357, your product keeps looking better the more I look at other lights

They'll look better when I get rid of the dark spots in the beam! You're in a somewhat unique situation though, because it's relatively easy to get a flood out of an LED. My housings are held-up at the anodizing shop right now, but hopefully by the end of this week I'll have some new beamshots for you. Thanks for the compliment thuough. BTW, I don't know if I mentioned earlier, but the fact that mine have 3 brightness levels was acutally intended for people using these to setup camp sites and whatnot so you don't get blinded.
