here and there
Hey guy's haven't been here in a while school getting hectic now that i'm in electrical, but anyways. My dad's freind visits india alot because he has a lot of fmaily there and wan'ts a flashlight to be able to take the tsunami's, and all the bad things that Mother Nature delivers to them. My dad is going to get more of what he is looking for tomorrow, but in the mean time i told him most likley Surefire. The thing is what if he needs batteries when he is over there and can't come across any 123's? So my question is what light would you use in this situation that uses common batteries for sya under $200(could be differnt when i get more info.)

+1 for the Fenix lights.

You might also want to consider lights from the FreePlay or NightStar lines since no batteries are required. Just make sure not to bring any of the NightStar lights too close to any electronics. The magnetic field generated by NightStar lights could really mess up electronic devices.

Freeplay lights:

(Don't forget to use the coupon code: CPF2006)

NightStar Lights:

In order of declining brightness the FreePlay lights would be ranked as such: Jonta, Sherpa, Indigo (lantern), Kito
The Jonta and Sherpa are bright enough for most tasks. The Kito is good for navigating when its very dark outside, but its not very bright overall. I don't own an Indigo, but I'm pretty sure it'll be noticeably brighter than the Kito. The Freeplay lights are: NOT waterproof, they are splashproof and will work in rainy conditions.

The NightStar lights are waterproof to various depths depending on the model. None of the NightStar lights are particularly bright, but they are brighter than the Kito.

I don't think so, nothing that I can remember. Should be simialr to Fenix in durability.

How harsh?

The Fenix(well the P3D, similar) has been abused and still worked.

Well i'm still waiting for my dad to calll with the details, but in the meantime i'l go look at pelican lights.

you may want to look into the Princeton Tec Torrent. It runs on 8AA batteries, but can be run on 4 if you need to. It comes in an LED version ( 47 lumens/30 hours ) or a Xenon version ( 115 Lumens/3 hours ). Its waterproof, has a lifetime guarantee, and is very reasonable in price. ( $33/$55 Xenon/LED ) Its not a piece of engineering artwork or anything, but its a rugged, bright light at a good price that runs on AA batteries.

Thanks guys, yes i'm still waiting my dad didn't see the guy today so, still waiting it out.
