I am a correctional officer and
from time to time I work the yard,
which is usually very well lit. But that
in it's self is a problem most areas are
so well lit I have little to no need for a light
but some places are near pitchblack.
I carry an E1B but find that the 80 lumens
is not bright enough when my eyes are
so adjusted that going from well to poorly
lit the 80 from my current duty light don't
cut it

Any thoughts

Yea I'm not looking for any thing
with a single cell I'm looking for a duty
light let's keep it simple 2 cells and low/high
mode

I just looked at that link and it shows nohting u might need. I dont work as a correctional officer but very shortly I will be applying for sheriffs in my area. I have thought the very same thing you are now. I think this light you looking for should serve two purposes. Number one to light up the night and Two to serve as an effective weapon considering you work enviroment. I would buy a mag light and drop in a very bright LED, Like P7, MCE or Terralux there pretty popular. These drop ins are around 300 lumens and above so it will be plenty of light and the heavy mag will work as a considerable weapon. Another consideration it Maybe a Jetbeam M1X, fenix TK40 and TK30. These are around 450-700 lumens depending on which one you pick and are alittle lighter than a maglight, but makes up for in brightness. I own a Jetbeam M1X and all i can say is wow, there is nothing that this cant light up, even an attacker will be disabled at 50 yards in the dark, ITS THAT BRIGHT NO JOKE. This will also give you plenty of time to react to any situation. I also have the extender for it 2X18650, Which gives it some reach and also makes as an effective weapon. Jetbeam makes very durable lights so it can prob withstand several impacts or blows. Do some research and I hope this helps you :twothumbs

Hell yea that's more like it I actually
found a situation where I personally
don't favor my
E1B

Do you want something as big as a mag? How much do you want to spend? Do you want this light to be as bright as possible(would you like a single die LED or multi die led?)

I recommend a Streamlight Strion LED or a Polystinger LED or if you don't want a rechargeable a Surefire 6P Led with a Malkoff M60. Maybe you should look at that new Fenix TK40 (630 lumens.)

I'm a C.O. but I don't work outside at night. If I did though... well, I don't know. I think my Polystinger should be bright enough.

Yeah I was thinking a surefire 6p with dropin too or maybe the ITP A6 Polestar, but maybe he gets cr123's at work.

Mag would be too big um don't know the
diff between single/multi die lookin to spend
150ish dollars like I said 2 123's prefer
two modes low high

Is the beam shape of the E1B ok for you?
If so, why not it's big brother, the E2DL, or maybe a LX2? They both have a lot more output on high, and a low mode.
You might check out the Marketplace forum. Don't know if it's coincidence, but about the time the LX2 came along, the prices on E2DLs, or at least E2DL bezels, dropped significantly. I paid about $70 for a bezel awhile back, have seen several go for a bit less, and complete lights for ~$100, if memory serves.

Quark turbo, 230 lumens, decent enough throw.
*now i'm presuming you're gonna edc this, and you're not looking for a big a$s one.

Or the light in my sig, if you get a solarforce L2 ($20) and moddoo triple, you've got good distance and up to 700 lumens.

Malkoff MD2 with hi/low ring, M60 and run it on two CR123 primaries, This should all be under $125 with shipping included. 230 lumens on high, about 11 lumens on low. Rock solid and easy to use.

Duty light, 2 CR123s, 2 modes?

Sounds like a Malkoff Devices MD2. Pick which M60 you want based on desired output, beam shape, and tint. Add the High/Low Bezel Ring. Done!

Don't have one myself, but I'd be picking one up if I had the chance.

Edit: Mr. Gman beat me to it!

I´ld recommend an Olight M20 or the M21.

The Jetbeam Jet III Military R2 is another great option.

Yeah, uh, he should buy a rechargeable IMO, for a duty light. I carry two, because, duh, I'm a flashlight nerd, my Polystinger Led and my Scorpion Led for backup (and lol to loan out.)

Thinking about buying a Malkoff MD2.

Still think the Strion Led would be best for him, it's 160 lumens and rechargeable and no switch issues.

Lol at thinking he will be carrying a weapon-flashlight. You can't carry weapons as a C.O. If something breaks off, the inmates will take it from you. Typical numbers in my prison are 60 to 300 on one C.O.

Hey bro,

You should go check out ElectronGuru here. He has the Old Surefire standby... with one hell of a twist.

Take a good read over his pages and saod up the info. I wont go to much into depth 'cept to say that I bought a SF 18650 bored C2 with SS bezel, Z59 Tailcap, and a Malkoff M30 from him and I stand-by it 100%. You can feel the quality... Its a hardcore product for a hardcore job :twothumbs.

If your looking for something more on the "stock" side that is pretty simple and multi role... I just took a long look at the SF LX2 and have one coming now. This light is nice and basic as far as the UI goes and it just SPANKS the light out the front and throws for ever. Its not rechargable... but the batteries have good runtime on the light and good shelf time for storage.

Anyway, stay safe.
