Lite On 20X DVD Burner

newegg has a LiteOn 20X DVD burner on sale for 33.99 and 5.64 shipping. Do you guys think it's a good idea to take it apart for the laser diode?

i think it will be good, if not better, than the same as mine, i obtained laser diode from Lite-On DVD8801, it was easy. I managet to get RMA on it too :lolsign:

the faster the speed the better the diode.. just keep in mind these diode are spec'd for pulsed @ 300+mw, but the CW power varies wildly, some only get 100mw and other go well beyond 200mw, even approaching 300mw. the harder you push them the less they will last.

I used one of their 16x (I think) DVD burners and blew the diode. be VERY careful with it.

Well .. this is one of the reasons why I have to pay so much of my hard earned money for things. Thank you very much and have a great deal of fun and satisfaction fromo this affair.

To get back on subject, though - yeah, that is a GREAT price on a 20X ! I saw 18X's about three days ago for only 3 dollars less...so that is a very good price !
