Howdy all :grin2:

I have just taken the plunge in to buying RCR123 batteries and have ordered a Romisen RC-A4 X from shingbeam. I think/hope this is a good start!

I am looking for more along these lines and don't mind spending a more quid but want to stay in the "bugdet" end of it if poss. Even happier to buy used when the chance arises.

So here's my needs from the light:

Must have a clickie - forward or reverse
Must have a decent pocket clip which sits lowish
Don't want loads of strobe or disco functions
High high and reasonable low desirable, but 3 modes also good
Preferably not too large for a 123 light
Must be able to run on RCR123 batteries too!

I think that's the basics

So, please help a girl spend more money here - all suggestions very welcome. I look forward to all your enabling ideas.

Cheers all :D

Not really on the budget end anymore, but since you said you were interested in buying something used:

supposed to be a pretty slick light.

Check out the itp selection on shiningbeam too, might find something you like. They are also a very reputable budget brand.

If you end up liking the romisen, also check out the romisen rc-c6 from shiningbeam. The zoomable optics are really cool and it is available in warm or cool. It can also work as a 2xAA light with an exntension tube.

Hi Nuphoria,

I'd suggest a 4Sevens Quark 123 or 123-2 tactical. If you get one of the R2 models, you can get either for around $50 USD +/- (don't forget CPF discount), plus an included prism kit and shipping. They come with forward clickies, sturdy clips, and are RCR123 compatible. These have the strobe/disco functions, but the tactical versions allow you to not worry about them, but are there if you want/need them.

Believe me, your budget will expand now that you've found CPF :) Happy hunting for your next torch!

I know all about budgets - I have a multitool habit

Thanks for the suggestions guys... I do quite like the Quark and it seems to be popular. As for that Jetbeam, definitely a wee bit out of my budget for now!

I was thinking about picking up that zooming Romisen too, a friend has one and we had a lot of fun playing with it. That might be next on the list.

Any more guys?

There is a Lumapower Incendio- CPF edition in the marketplace. (not mine) It fits the bill. Has 4 levels, nice low, great high. No strobe. The diffusor is great- turns it into a great room lantern. Use mine all the time. Worth looking into.

Oh, I'll check that one out thanks.

I love researching new stuff - it's all Geek to me

D'oh, missed that one.... the Incendio looks pretty much perfect for my needs, so now I will have to try and hunt for another one!

You're all enablers :D

Well I'm in serious doo doo now then!

These habits do seem to go hand in hand! I joined here ages ago but managed to keep it under control... now I have no chance

If you're leaning to higher standards and a fun (programmable) light consider LiteFlux. Not budget (~$60), but if you are raising the limit the LF3XT is one to check out.

Well, budgets are bound to go out of the window soon I suspect :D

For now, the RC-A4 X arrived and I really like the look and feel of it.

Knurling is good, clip is very strong and the overall finish is very decent indeed. The only problem I have now is that the batteries I need to run the bloody thing on are still in the post from HK somewhere....

I shall just have to wait and see what it looks like on!

Now I have to go look at the Liteflux

You can get the Incendio V3 (XP-G) non CPF edition on sale right now from one of the dealers. I'm not sure of the rules so I won't post a link but just do a search and it will come up sure enough.

Got mine and it's a pretty good light, tiny but powerful. Don't have RCR123's yet so just running on primaries.

The Zebrelight SC30 flashlight looks to have a very sturdy clip.

You might also like the side-switch. (Quiet electronic switch)

Give it a look

The iTP SC1 is quite nice.

The clip may not suit your requirements as its fixed in a bezel up position and not all that deep.

But the compatibility with RCR123, Forward+Reverse clicky and mode selection on the side make it pretty cool.

Yeah, that iTP clip is a dealbreaker sadly... otherwise it certainly meets the needs.

I am leaning towards saving a few pennies for something a little more expensive (oh big surprise there I hear you saying), maybe the RRT-0, EX10 or that rather nice Liteflux.

I like the look of the Zebralight SC30 too - I have a H501 which I love the UI of.

The Incendio looks fierce but something about it just isn't sexy!

This will of course get very quickly out of hand
