I'm looking for a good P-60 host. HA is a must as is the ability to fit 18650s. I'm planning on building something bright and durable but not too expensive. The ability to tail stand and a reverse clicky are preferred.

Any suggestions?

Mark

Check out the Solarforce L2p, it has HA III anodizing, 18650 compatibility, and with the stock tailcap the ability to tailstand.

I would be careful when cutting costs, because you DO get what you pay for after all.
You might find that the Type III anodizing from a cheap "Made in China" light might not even keep up with the Type II anodizing from say, a Surefire light.

Though never having owned an L2P host I can't really comment on it though.

I had a L2P Type III by Solarforce and it feels great. The feel is a definite improvement and Solarforce deserves a big :twothumbs.

Having said that, I would rather pay $100 plus for a Type III Natural bored 6P by Electroguru.

Then you need good IMR 18650's, McClicky, UCL lens, and SST-50 from Nailbender.

Agreed. In fact, I did get myself a nice 6PD HA host, but it's currently sitting inside Milkyspit's house and it'll be a while before I can feel the beautiful matte finish of that lovely piece of art.

The IMR cell isn't necessary unless running direct drive, and even then you might want to use the regular AW li-co cell for 2600mAh of runtime.

The McClicky and UCL lens are very nice. They increase the lumens output significantly.

One of my favorite p60 host is Farka F8.

The Solarforce looks good for my purposes. Good quality but not too expensive. The Farka looks great but I think I'll look into that when I have a specific purpose in mind. Basically I'm just looking for a good host for experimentation with different drop-ins.

Now to look into all the drop-ins available!

Thanks!

Basically I'm just looking for a good host for experimentation with different drop-ins.
Just an FYI, the interior dimensions between the SolarForce & SureFire hosts are not the same, some drop-ins won't work very well with one or the other.

I put together these diagrams:
SF6Pbody_headend-1.jpg
SFhead_bezel.jpg

Note that in the SolarForce body, D1 is much wider and actually equal to D2. Also, in the SolarForce head, H1 is approximately 0.030" greater than in the SureFire Z44.

One of the results of this (you'll find more issues, I promise) is that when using an un-sprung drop-in like the Malkoff in a SolarForce host, my experience was that a washer was needed to simulate a smaller-diameter spring shelf in the body dimension D1. It also provided a thickness greater than the 0.030" needed to securely hold the Malkoff.

If you play around with drop-ins in these two hosts, you'll find some drop-ins that work well with the SF while some that work better with the SolarForce. Kind of a pain, really. YMMV, but from what I've read here in the Malkoff and the ElectronGuru/Moddoo threads, others have had similar issues as well.
