Arrgh, I swore I'd never make a post like this, but here it is. I am looking for a light. Requirements are as follows: 1. AA format (preferably single AA) 2. Must be able to handle rechargeable cells 3. Must be able to tailstand 4. XP-G LED 5. Programmable with a usable low (~8-11 otf lumens) 6. Water/weather resistant/proof 7. Clip (prefer reversible, must be able to be clipped bezel up) 8. Knurling/anti-roll design 9. Floody type of beam and/or have a diffuser accessory I was okay researching lights up until #9 (#7 was surprisingly difficult as well). All the lights I was able to narrow down to my short list advertised that they could throw for a gazillion miles. I just want to light up the nearby area, not 5 miles down the trail. As far as 'usable' low, I mean able to read by. Some lights have moon settings as low as 4 lumens, I've found this to be impractical for my needs as the programming for these lights usually have the next stage up being too bright. Clip oriented for bezel up carry is a must. Any help finding lights that meet these criteria is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you can go with an R2 led, look at the Jet-1 Pro V.3:
single aa or 14500
2-way clip
3 programmable modes. anyway you want 'em
clip=anti-roll
floody beam? not really but good side spill

+1 on the Jet-I

but it is more of a thrower so I'm not sure if that rules it out for you Fargus. Other light's to look at is

Zebralight SC50- it's not XPG but still it is very floody, also it's not programmable but it has a great UI with nice variations in output. Bezel down carry carry only with included clip.

Quark AA Tactical
Fenix LD10 R4 (not programmable)

Jetbeam RRT-0 R5 with optional AA extender and Surefire F04 beam diffuser.

Hi, thanks for all the responses so far. Anything with bezel down carry is out I'm afraid. I have to have bezel up. The Jet-I V3 looks just about perfect. Not sure how much 'floodier' it is with an OP reflector over a smooth. Have to see if there are any beam tests between the two configurations. Can the 2 AA tube be ordered as an accessory?

I was looking at the Fenix LD10 early on. The run times aren't that impressive to me for the brightness levels and the clip isn't reversible to allow bezel up usage. The light's performance just seems like it could be a whole lot better with the XP-G LED.

The clip with the Jet-I is a bezel down clip but maybe there is a clip for somewhere you can use for bezel up, maybe someone can help with that if they know of one. The OP reflector is more to clean up the beam from cree rings and not necessarily to widen the hotspot or spill size. There is some nice reviews with beamshots just do a CPF search for Jet-I Pro V3 reviews.

The LD10 is competitive with most other lights. I've seen pictures with the clip the other way, its not glued on or screwed on or anything. Check out nitecore, if you want something brighter on 1xAA, your best bet is to wait. The Malkoff M31 and the Eagletac PC20A should come out soon.

Am I missing something, or did the OP just describe the Quark AA? Not sure about XPG emitter, and I guess it's not "programmable", but it pretty much nails the rest of the criteria.

Just saw my first Quark single AA today, and its beam is pretty darn floody. Not quite as much as my D10 Tribute, but still pretty big and smooth.

Yeah, it sounds like a Quark AA would be pretty close. It's a 1xAA format; can handle NiMH and Li-ion rechargeable; uses an XP-G emitter; is water-resistant; has a reversible clip; has knurling and the clip would act as anti-roll.

The regular version comes with a reverse-clicky tailcap that can tailstand, although it cycles through 8 modes instead of being programmable. The tactical version is a two-mode where each mode is programmable among any of the 8 available, and comes with a non-tailstanding forward-clicky, but there's a tailstanding version of the tailcap available.

The lumen outputs on the low end are 0.2, 4, and 22, so not quite what was asked for. The XP-G beam is not terribly throwy, but it's not a flat flood either. The Prism kit comes with a diffuser, but it requires using the right-angle prism, so you can't aim the flashlight end-wise as you would normally. This could be good or bad depending on the intended use.

So, there are some options in the Quark line, but it still might not be exactly what you're after.

I have had a Jet 1 Pro V3 with R2 for a couple of weeks now and it is a very good little light. It replaced my LM31/301 as my edc and is configurable to the levels that you need. It is definetely NOT a flood light but has very useable spill and excellent throw. According to sources on this forum an XP-G version may be on the way so if you are not in a hurry you could wait on it?

I run "AW" 14500's in mine and can not fault it at this time.

Quark's levels are wrong.

Quark levels are 0.2, 4, 22, 80, 109
Fenix levels are 9, 50, 105, 132

I love it when we recommend lights we've just bought even if they don't fit the requirements.

I don't know but my LD20 and LD10 "low" is WAY to bright to use for reading. My Quark 123 on the other hand is perfect.

I can't read with either light. My eyes adapt to the brightness of the spot and I get tunnel vision. Zebralight is better than both as a reading light.

That is exactly how we all end up with so many lights:whistle:.

I assume you are talking about the H50/501 and not the SC50.
+1 if throwy hotspot not required..

The clip with the Jet-I is a bezel down clip but maybe there is a clip for somewhere you can use for bezel up,

All the pics I've seen of the Jet-I clip show it to be multi-duty. The section closest to the body tube holds bezel up while the section on top holds bezel down.

I looked at the Quark AA. I really like the design, but the levels aren't what I am looking for and the clip doesn't seem to be reversible. I like the design enough (and read several very positive reviews) that I'll probably order one in the future.

I also really like the Fenix L10 as well.

I wound up ordering a Jet-I Q3 though. The other two will probably follow as my addiction grows.

Thanks to all who offered suggestions and advice! Really appreciate your assistance.

Fargus your right about that I take my clips off and deep pocket carry so I did not remember it could be used both ways and I'm glad you figured that out, I cannot remember how secure it is when carried that way or how much of the bezel will be out of your pocket. Great decision though it's a wonderful light and I think my Q3 tint is fabulous.
