Looking for a small 2xAA light to replace my original Fenix L2T

I've had a Fenix L2T for a few years now (swapped the original Luxeon III for a T-bin Seoul) and I love the size an simplicity of the light, but it is kind of out of date. My favorite feature is the two modes. I don't like strobe and an SOS mode is an abomination to me! I am looking for a quality compact AAx2 LED flashlight that can simply switch between a few brightness modes. I like a mix of runtime and brightness: I don't need to land airplanes with this light.

I have a D20 and really like it, but it is a bit long for my pocket. I like the UI of the D20 a lot (easy to use and no strobe or SOS). Also, this light has turned on in my pocket on about 5 occasions and I didn't notice until it started to burn me. This is my only complaint about the piston system. The batteries break contact for a moment when I am walking and this tricks the light into thinking that the bezel has been loosened and tightened which turns the light on.

I have a Jetbeam JET-III ST and I like it a lot. I had a JET-I once and hated it (ringy, dim, UI not as friendly, etc.)

I love pocket clips, but they are not required because I can attach my own. I've read about the new Quark lights, but they have many modes including SOS

. How much bigger is the Q2 L2T than the original L2T?
Here is a pic of my original:

Hi, Fenix Cree's Q5 LEDs has been quite impressive to me, their LD20 runs on 2xAA and has 4 light modes (9, 47, 94 & 180 lumens) + 2 SOS and Strobe but you don't have to use them. I'm using a LD10 and the tail thread is anodized, same as the LD20, so you can loosen the tail cap slightly to avoid it being switch on accidentally in your pocket.

I can't confirm the length for the LD20, but the LD10 is 10cm, runs on 1xAA though.

How did you do that clip on there? Did you fabricate the entire clip and rivet it yourself? I think that would be a thread worthy topic in itself. Simply looks like the best designed clip I ever laid my eyes on. Do tell...

The clip is a piece of sheet metal (1095). I tempered it with a torch, then put the bends in it with a vice, hammer, and block of steel. I then drilled the holes matching the lanyard holes on the Fenix, and tapped them for 4-40. A little re-hardening (to make it springy) and it's worked perfectly for a few years of EDC so far.

The new L2Tv2.0 should be the same size as your old one.

The 2xAA Quark Tactical may be of your liking. You program it for two modes, then it operate identical to your current light. You just have the added benefit of choosing what two levels to be, and it is impossible to accidently reprogram the light. It is also availabe in a warm tint if that's your thing.

Where is the non-warm variety of this light? I could only find the warm tint tactical version on 4sevens.com.

It is a nice piece of work. Ya know, there are probably more than a few people who would pay you for one of those clips for the Fenix 2 x AA lights. Just a thought. :)

OLIGHT T25 would be my choice, has pocket clip, but can be taken off, is 2AA, ok it does have SOS and strobe, but you do not need to cycle through these if using just one mode.
The tailcap clicky is a simple on off, and the setting is selected by turning the bezel, it remembers the mode it was last in and stays at that until changed, a VERY tough little light, it has no hole for a lanyard should you want but a smal drill would soon sort that.
Beam is excellent, nice spread, nice pure white light, no blueness at all as I hate that.

wondering
You already have an 18650 light but still prefer to use the 2*AA one?

I was lost immediately
(to the 18650 cell)

Try the EagleTac P100A2. You won't be disappointed at all!
XP-E, 2xAA, max 195 lm
