Option 1 and 2 sounds good.

Marking the heads on the units that you do the switch on is a good idea as well.

Set a time limit on the exchange period. You may see some who buy a *new* LS20 from your next wave try to get a window and o-rings to keep as spares.

I think that either a blue dot or what about sending a small round sticky dot (available at many stationary stores. The dot could be placed on the inside of the battery tube and would id the light as having a new window.
Just a thought.

Hi guys,
I think trying to identify these lights as fixed is more trouble than it is worth. The majority of these that will receive window replacements will be a case of fixing something that isn't broken to start with.

Sort of in a related regard, I have now received three lights in the past few months requiring repair because they weren't working properly. These were all of the PD platform. All three, as it turned out, once I received them, had been modified by persons unknown to me and I had not been alerted by the person sending the light to me, about these modifications. I fret about one of my lights being returned because it isn't performing properly and when I finally get it, it has been "improved" by someone?!?! WTF! :banghead: I don't know who did what or how much information may have been passed on to a new owner but I do know that I am under the impression that I am taking a look at a light I built and it turns out that I get to fix something that was not of my design or doing. These are no doubt isolated instances but this latest is a light I just looked at today and needless to say it is very fresh on my mind and likely clouding my judgment at the moment (I'm pissed for some reason).

So I guess my point is that these lights are open to anyone who feels like messing with them. I have no doubts that someone with younger eyes and better fingers can do as good or better job than me in a window replacement. On the other hand, someone can get in there and totally screw up the works and this can happen regardless of any need or lack of need of replacement. (BTW, THERE IS NO NEED TO REMOVE THE WINDOW SEAL O-RING OR MESS WITH THE REFLECTOR!)

I think I will go with both option 1 and 2 listed above. If you have a LunaSol 20 and want a replacement window or want me to replace the window for you, please contact me by e-mail and let me know your wish. If I am to mail you a window & spare O-rings, please provide your mailing address so I can get it taken care of. If you are sending the light to me for window replacement, let me know and I can provide you my address if you don't have it.

I now have the balance of the first lot of LunaSol 20's all prepped and ready but for the converter package. As soon as I get in the order for GD converters, I can get these buttoned up and launch the wave. I also have the Ti sets of the next lot of LunaSol 20's now in hand as of yesterday so I have plenty of assembly work to do in preparation for future waves of LunaSol 20's.

Hi guys. I just wanted to report that I did the install of the new window on one of my units this morning.
The installation went smoothly. I did it with the head off of the flashlight. (quick tip if you do the exchange with the head off make sure that you wipe all of the lube off of the treads so you lessen the chances of smugging (is that a word? hell I don't know) the window with lube inside or out.
it takes seconds to make the exchange and minutes to re seat the O-ring.
Take your time and don't get frustrated. I use the rounded end of something that will not make the window to help like the end of a pen or chopstick. you sort of roll it over the O-ring and it pushes it into place. the very last little pit is the hardest.
It may not look or feel like it when you are into your 15th minute of installing the )-ring but I promise it does fit. USE PATIENCE.
also do this with good light and in a dust free environment. I know this may sound crazy but your car with it's air ON after about 5 minutes is very low on dust and is a good place to do any work that might expose a reflector to dust. I hate stuff on my reflector so I do this work in my mini dust free environment the car with air on.

Have fun and take your time.

In terms of results? I will make my way into the water today and give it a try....

I probably should add a possible tip for any of you who find it difficult to properly and evenly seat the retaining O-ring. If the O-ring has some type of lube on it, it will be more willing to be formed and worked into its groove. Obviously this lube is also likely to end up smudged on the window and in need of removal. One lube I found very helpful on the HD45 window retaining O-rings was dry silicone spray. I would spray the O-ring with silicone spray and then work it all around the o-ring and wait for the carrier or whatever it is called to evaporate leaving a dry but slippery O-ring. I have found that I haven't needed any more lube than that already present in the O-ring for this application but YMMV.

Funny that you should mention the lube aspect Don.
I discovered this by accident because when I did mine..because I did not clean off the threads I did get lube on my fingers and then the O-Ring.
I did not mention this because I was not sure if the lube helped or hindered my effort to install the O-ring. I did not want to recommend looking the window O-ring in case it actually makes the job harder to do.
When I do my second unit I will not lube it at first to see if it is harder to install.

UPDATE:
I got into the water for almost an hour with a lunasol around my neck with NO PROBLEM. There was no water anywhere after a vigorous swim.
I have no doubt that the lunasol will hold up the normal exposure to the elements that my EDC flashlight will meet with. Mostly exterior rain and some ocean. The lunasol will have no problem with those at all.

How long do you think the exterior window O-ring will last? more importantly how often should it be changed?
There is no doubt that this O-Ring is the key to the lights ability to shrug off exposure to the elements.
What should end users look for when it comes to examination of that O-ring? How often should it be looked at?
Nothing worse to run into a rainy day and find either the window gone or the light flooded because of poor maintenance.


Don I was just wondering if the lowish) request numbers are because not everybody reads this forum who has a Lunasol. Maybe a post elsewhere (other flashlight sites?) by Lunasol users that pointed lunasol users to this advisory is in order. I am guessing that the goal is to get as close to 100% of the lights out there refitted. I would be happy to make a post or two elsewhere if you think it would be helpful.
I am sure others would be glad to do the same.

It isn't hard to build a small 'clean room' using a commercial HEPA filtration unit. These units are 99.97% efficient @ 0.3microns (.000012").

I've purchased three on eBay, Amaircare brand, which is one of the few HEPAs that actually delivers the results they claim.
