Anyone know of any luxeon flasher circuits that run off 1.5 volt input voltage? I need to make a high power warning flasher for running and riding at night.
Thanks!

I suspect that a LED might not be the best route. I know that's not Kosher around here but I think there's a good argument for the traditional flash tube.

It's far more efficient to have a very short, very bright flash. The tube also flashes all around, the LED could easily be pointed the wrong way. My single D cell flasher gets 80 hours (a flash per second) and is far, far brighter than you can push a LED. I've seen it over a mile away on a 'normal night'.

There's so much light, you can even put a filter in to cut out the colors you don't want and still 'have a great plenty'.

I suggest considering it.

i was also considering doing a flashing circuit with something like a cheapo photo flash capacitor discharge thing, but i dont think those come in blue and i didnt want to use a cheezy filter.

you should see mine flash, i'm certain it is quite fairly well noticable at 1 mile. not that it needs to be for a runner or a biker. i think 1/4 to 1/2 mile is about right. and at that distance mine really stands out. what the hell else flashes blue at 2hz?

I have used xenon flash type circuits they will be the brightest.

I think using a white side emitting luxeon or a custom optic for 360 deg coverage will work great, less of a chance for breakage coupled with simple , small circuitry should make an excellent saftey flasher.
