I have modified my 4d mag with the 6 sub c cells with pvc tube and put in a 5d mag bulb in it. any idea how many lumens it is putting out? I used 6 3800 mah sc tenergy cells from an rc stick pack charged on my maha 808m with aluminum spacers.

This might sound funny but Maglite 4D / 4C has the most lumen ratings. I couldn't believe it at first but I found the same numbers from 2 online retailers and Maglite brochures.

5C / 5D / 6C / 6D definitely has more runtime than 4C / 4D but 4C / 4D has higher lumen ratings.

4C / 4D = 122lm
5C / 5D = 91lm
6C / 6D = 114lm

I remember such numbers from Maglite downloadable PDF brochure.

Don't believe Maglite's lumen claims. The 4D is around 60 lumen with fresh batteries. The 5D would be brighter then the 4D and the 6D would be the brightest of the three.

As for the 5D overdriven bulb, I'm guessing around 200 lumen at the bulb.

Funny you should ask. I have a 6D M*g. I stuck in NiCd's and did some tests. The xenon was noticeably brighter than the stock krypton bulb, but only by a small margin.

Next, I stuck in a 5D krypton bulb from Rat Shack, and the output (from my subjective eyeballs) was similar to that of the LMSA601 (6 cell xenon).
Truthfully, I was NOT impressed :shakehead .

Suggest you consider an EL or Malkoff or Inretech or Terralux 300M; else, say screw-it and go to a 3854 ROP hotwire.

+1 for the TerraLUX TLE-300 drop-in recommendation, $73 for 600 lumens and just as easy to install as the Maglite bulbs.

I just did it because it was cheap and easy for a start. I also have a modamag 6aa-2d adapter on order for my 2d mag lite to use the 5d lamp in. I will probably get a malkoff devise or a tle-300. perhaps i might order both and convert my newly acquired 6d mag to a full rop, or swap in a 5d lamp. hehe:rock:

According to my calculations, if the cells are freshly charged, enough to deliver 7.8V under load, and the Maglite has the stock 0.177 ohms of resistance, then your 5-cells bulb should produce about 116 bulb lumens (krypton) or 176 bulb lumens (xenon).

IMHO only, of course.
