I ve got my mag 85,all set up wa1185 bulb,got a 5mega smo reflecter to replace my stiplled one(I think that will help ). Im thinking of somthing brighter,much brighter. What sould I look at? Please dont list light over $400 or something to large to carry.Id like to build my self(not HID).Should I look at hid? Most pics Ive seen have crappy looking beams(ringy)Are any hids with faily even beams??Runtime should be 40 plus min.What are my options??

didn't mention what battery configuration or socket. assuming 9 cell AA and kiu socket can replace one AA with a dummy then plug in a Osram 64430 for twice the lumens or the Tungsram 57580 substitute for twice the lumen output.

Look at the Mag64 or the WA1164 Bulb. A simple swap from the Mag85 and runs on 8AAs. Producing upwards of 1500 blumens. It's whiter and brighter than the 85. Downside is it's got less bulb life and since it's 8 batteries less runtime.
If you look at the Mag85 it's pretty unreasonable for regular use anyway but this just pushes that edge.
I can start a fire with mine in about 30 seconds.
