For those who have hotwired both models is there any noticeable difference in amp capacity between the Mag C and D switches?

The C bodied switch has a greater electrical contact area then the D body switch. It can handle more power.

DonShock posted exploded views of both the C and D switches in this 2007 post. Take a close look at the differences of the electrical contacts between the two.

This being true, neither one will stand long periods of high amp applications like he's wanting to do. For high current bulbs you will either need to mod the switch, or replace it with something other than stock. Think of it as putting a racing engine on a street transmission, sure it might "work", but how long is it gonna hold up?
