First, I did a thorough search. The best lumen upgrade I could find was 1,000 lumens. I am hoping that things have improved.

My cop friend (loves SureFires) will be buying the Ub2. He was issued the Mag Charger and immediately put it in storage.

The mod requirements.

1. Lumens must blow away the Ub2. 2,000 would be great.
2. Still be reliable, not :poof: of the bulb at bad times.
3. Dropin or someone I/he can send it to. Neither one of us has experience modding.
4. The charger must still work. If it is modded too, that's fine.
5. Runtime of 10-20 minutes should do.
6. Once mod is done, bulb/battery changes are the only normal upkeep.

It is purely for those times he REALLY needs a lot of light. Otherwise he will just use his Surefire.

Toss in a Philipps 5761 along with a mica insulator and enlarge the opening in the reflector. That will blow away the surefire by a mile.

The Philipps 5761 has a max of 900 lumens. I found it in my search. It would blow away the current SureFires, but not the Ub2, which he will be buying. As a fellow forumite said, twice as many lumens only appear 75% brighter. Also SureFire underestimates their lumens. For that minor improvement, he won't bother to go to his car to get it.

if you are OK in spending something like 300/350$ I think I have found what you are looking for.

you need to quad bore the MC - I'd like to suggest jesus hernandez
buy a 12 X AAs ELITE 1700 battery pack from LuxLuthor
throwmaster head for MC from Fivemega
get some cheap 50-75-100W - 12V bulbs
you need to replace the MC switch tower with a KIU socket and you are ready!

FILIPPO - What are the approximate lumens?
I haven't asked him his price limit, but he is buying a Ub2. So as long as it utterly blows away the Ub2, I think he will go for it. :thanks:

I think that with osram 64623 bulb (100W) and qith throwmaster you'll get something like 3000/3500 lumens out of the front and a quite good throw too...

Excellent!! For truly blowing the Ub2 away, I think he will go for it.

buy a 12 X AAs ELITE 1700 battery pack from LuxLuthor
Can this be used with the MagCharger charger? If not, can the charger be adapted?

you need to replace the MC switch tower with a KIU socket
How hard is that to do?

LOL, you beat me to my own comment!

The mica shield can be a bother to get a hold of. There is no need to go to a KIU unless you are going to a G6.35 base bulb jor others that are more than 36 watts. I have run standard slug/sockets for some time now with absolutely no problems at less than 40 watts.

I found that a little tuff of ceramic blanket material or glass felt used in automotive body work, very easy to obtain, works good as a heat shield for the standard slug/socket for any voltage of the 5761 or 1160 or 1111 in the magcharger. Just put a piece under the bulb.

The phillips 5761 OEM voltage is 6V, same as the MC and is rated 497 torch lumens at 6 volts. Go to 7.2 Volt battery pack and you get almost 900 torch lumens. If you have over 7.3V to the bulb you will flash it. There are techniques to control that.

Yesterday I found an almost drop in ceramic G4 socket for the magcharger, I intend to post it this weekend. I know there is some interest in that. It is neat to have as the heat shields can be lost and loose to work with.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I would like it if Northern Lights would post about this drop in socket:D

Sweet, thanks

now, if i could only cram one of those in my old Scorpion too :D

Try a Streamlight "TL-3" Bulb and two RCR123 in it. That will be a 9V bulb driven by about 8.4 Volts hot off the charger. Basically a Minimag Auroralite Hotwire setup in a Scorpion body. Now I dont know how the "bulb" holder in the scorpion will hold up to the heat, but the reflector in the head is metal, and I think the lens is glass. I've only use this setup in small bursts of light maybe 2-3 minutes at most. The head does get "hot" to the touch. But I'm uncomfortable running this thing to the point that it's "Burning" to the touch with Li-Ion batteries so close to the heat source in the tube.

But you may be adventurous???

You have to many limitations and your definition of "blow away" a light that no one has yet to see seems high.

Either lighten up on the 2000 lumens (when really 1000 bulb lumens will beat the LED light) or lose the stock charger.

I don't understand why you would want it anyways, its not that great of a charger.

Thanks all! I went to my friend and discussed his options. He decided not to get the upgrade or my backup suggestion(I never mentioned it here) I now know exactly what he wants and why. We are going to see if the Ub2 is necessary or can he get away with a SureFire dropin or a cheaper SureFire.

Again, thanks to everyone who answered.
