Whilst weighing up the options for batteries for a mag hotwire i ended up putting together an excel sheet to compare them. I found it quite handy so i thought i'd tart it up a bit and share it with everyone.

The Data and figures shown is entirely theoretical rather than fact it doesnt take into account a number of variables such as reduced battery capacity due to high current drain but it works for comparative purposes

Key to colour codes and columns in table

Cells L is the number of cells lengthways in the host

Cells A is the number of cells across in the host
Orange requires a Tri-bore
Red requires a Quad-bore

Pack L is the total length required by the configuration
Blue longer than the standard battery setup
Voltage S is the voltage for the config with all the cells in series

Voltage P is the voltage for the config with the cells across in a parallel setup

The colours in these columns relate to common bulb setups

Pink 6-7.4v eg: ROP Hi/Low, Philips 5761
Green 9.6-12v eg: WA 1185
Yellow 12-18v eg: 50w Osram Bulbs
Run 10,20,30 is the runtime for bulbs of that wattage

I've included options that are slightly too long for the hosts as such as 2x17670 in a 2D as I reckon its possible to get them to work. Either by moving the switch up in the body, shorter switch or cutting down the tailcap slightly. I've not tried this so there is no guarantee that these configs will work.

I'm sure its not perfect and there may be errors feel free to let me know

I felt that this was the best place for this post as it relates hotwire mags quite specificly but if its in the wrong place i apologise

WOW, that's a lot of great work there. Nice to see all these comparisons and details. Many thanks for doing this !!!

Ta for the comments, I can post the tables for 4d,5,d and 6d if folks want

one thing it does show is that if some good quality D Li-ions appear they will be the best thing since sliced bread (for mag mods anyhow).
