Theres alot of P7 beamshots already available on the forum, but seems like all of them are set on spot focus. I'm interested in buying one if not building one for myself...but I'm not much of a fanatic for lights that just throw. :candle:

I was wondering how cell the P7 would look in flood focus, perhaps with an orange peel reflector. Anyone has any thoughts on this?

De-focused, the beam looks horrible when using the stock mag reflector. That's why people show focused beams.

With a KD OP 15mm opening reflector, de-fecused beams have donut holes in them and also look relatively poor. Again, that's why you see focused beams. The KD reflector does produce a nicer looking de-focused beam than the Mag reflector does. It also produces a smoother looking hot spot vs the Mag reflector. But the smooth Mag reflector clearly beats the KD OP reflector for hot spot lux.

The P7 Mag beams have fairly good spill lux, so they aren't all throw. They also just happen to have good throw.

I agree. Just like a stock Mag, the beam quality isn't good defocused. Have you seen a P7 Mag in person? If you haven't, maybe we can arrange something. They do have some throw, but the spill is wide and bright also. The spill doesn't show up well in photos. I like the DX reflector myself. It has a flat bottom and can't be focused. To me it has a little more flood than the stock reflector. The KD reflector I haven't tried if it's the one with the removeable cam.

This thread has one of the better P7 beamshots I've seen.
