Willie Hunt makes an "8AA Conversion Stick" for the 2D Maglite. It's a combination 8AA battery holder and voltage regulator. The benefits are (1) brighter, (2) you can use easy to find Lithium AAs (mine's the household emergency light so shelf life is an issue) and (3) much more constant light output--it stays bright until the batteries are almost dead. I put one in an old Maglite I had laying around. I've been meaning to check the voltage output to see if I can replace the bulb WH provided with a LS . . .
