Hey guys,

I searched for the last hour and did not find what I wanted, so help me please!

I bought a brand new Maglite 2D LED. Worked great inside. I really loved this light until I brought it ice fishing. The light would get dim and then it would do alright.

Is it the bulb or the batteries?

Thanks all,

Jeff

Are you using alkaline cells? That might be why - try lithium AAs (like Energizer).

Alkaline cells are famous for that, it's another benefit of lithiums. It's not the drop-in, it's the battery chemistry. Unfortunately, affordable C and D lithiums are still just a pipe dream.

Yeah they are just the off the shelf energizers. Where and how much are the lithiums?

Try using AA Lit cells in a D cell holder. That should take care of it.
Regard.

Just throw in lithium AA's? I cant imagine this working.

Exchange it for something you can put AA's in?

If you put Lithium AA's in a D holder it should work, they can handle the current.

What do you mean in a D holder. I just fill the light with AAs instead of D's?

I guess if you make a tube to keep them centered on the terminals, it might work

There are battery adapters that you can put AA batteries in to make them fit into D size flashlights. I'd suggest just buying a flashlight that uses lithium batteries directly instead.

Why do we put * in Mag? Is it profanity?

Not sure, but think it's a leftover from the older days when everybody hated Maglite for their frivilous lawsuits against other flashlight companies, a bit tongue in cheek. Or something completely else. :)

Back on thread, where can you get D-size AA holders?

Here is one on ebay and few other.

Sorry, this is what I come up with in a hurry. but there has to be more. I would look around places like Rat-shak, Fry's and places like that for very inexpensive ones.
You can use (depending on the type you get) 1, 2, 3, cells in the holder and it still produces 1.5 V. and you just load them into the light as you normally would. I hope that I explained this ok.

Some are build differently, for ROP setup and stuff like that. They are designed to take the AA's in the adaptor in series and will produce more volts. Eg: 3 AA to D - 4.5 V. These are not the one you want.

D size adapters for AA's:

There is no D cell lithium battery in the right voltage for a direct replacement of D alkalines. One could use 2- 3.6 volt lithium D cells <http://www.batteries.com/productprofile.asp?appid=368604> and a Maxstar 5 led drop in <http://www.led-replacement.com/4_maglite.html> to produce a very long lasting led light.......

But sheesh $$$$$ $24 each for the lithium D batteries.
