Hey,

my name is Matt and Im from Germany.

I hope I post this in the right forum...

So, I want to put a 3W 4Cell LED from Maglite into my BMW (halo rings) since Im not able to build something with several parts, so the Maglite LED is the real deal for me.
I wish the housing from the 3W led would be a bit smaller, so it fit in my original housing.

All I want to know is if I may forgot something (electrically) for this mod.

All I planned to do is convert the voltage down from 12 to 6. Is that enough or do I need something more?

I will be using the original Maglite housing to place the LED in there.

Thanks for the help!

*edit*

do you think, if i would disassemble the maglite 3W led, that it could fit in this housing? http://www.donsbulbs.com/bulbs/g/b/ba9s.gif

well...for the relative dimensions of the magled's internal parts may be found at MagLite 2C/2D 4D 3W LED drop-in Technical Review
I'm assuming fore this converter of yours your using a LM7806 or MC7806...thats alot of heat you know...50%:ohgeez:

the only person I can think of that has the ability to custom design and retrofit automotive lighting is our great administrator [and EV nut] Darell... heres some of his works 1, 2

I once wired an LM7805 in this fashion as a +5V regulator to charge my MP3 using a 9V battery. it got so hot it smelted solder:ohgeez:

this is how the circuit should be made...in your case, the LM7806
