Anybody notice this MAHA on T/D pages? MAHA is offering a 5 year warranty on their 2.7Ah AA's! I can't find any explaination of it or conditions so far.

Hello Bill,

Very interesting...

I see that Maha is now offering to replace any consumer device that is damaged by PowerEx batteries, as long as it has been properly operated and as long as the batteries have been charged in a PowerEx or Maha charger.

I wonder how many sets of batteries I can wear out in 5 years.

I wonder exactly how it's worded too? It has to have some limits: capacity, etc. I ordered two eight packs last night and used a 5% off code also.

Bill:

Good luck with those. I hope they prove reliable and long lived. PowerEx have been my best cells over the years. I am still running sets of 2000, 2200 and 2300 mAH with solid reliability.

Lately, I tried some 2500 mAH cells of Energizer and Sanyo brand and suffered failures of rapid self discharge or collapse under load on almost all of them. I am beginning to wonder if there are going to be general reliability problems on higher capacity AA cells.

Also, PowerEx may have extended the warranty to 5 years as a competitive measure against the "name" brands. I don't know of any problems with their cells or reputation that would have forced such a move. A nice feature if we can keep track of all our cells for a long time.

I've had real good luck with PowerEx 1.8Ah cells. T/D is also selling PowerEx 2Ah cells but they don't have the 5 year warranty though! I'd still like to see how the warranty is worded.

A self discharge test would be good. These cells have got to hold up better than Sanyo 2500mAh cells. Anyone want to do a test of four cells, and post results?
