I'm wanting to make up a few Aleph LE's to try in a new toy, thanks Ganp  (a McR-45 Aleph head), I want a couple to be cree XR-Es, what the warmest tint available?(and where from if you know :D) I used to love my V1 tint Mclux III, can I get close?
They'll be driven at 500 and 833mA's

thanks, Ian :)

Some of the P4 Crees I ordered from Dealextreeme were warm. So far I've used 4: 1 rosey-orange tint, 1 lavender tint, 2 creamy yellowish tint. Overall they are all quite white with faint tints. It's a bit of a crapshoot, but the price is right. I bought an assortment of the stars. The largest size can be trimmed to fit into an XR can and the thickness is only 0.5mm thinner than the star the Shoppe uses. I have not had z-axis issues in my Aleph 19 heads using these LEs. YMMV

DX also sells a star that is the right diameter to drop in the XR can (16mm) but it is less than 1 mm thick and will cause z-axis issues in the Aleph system unless shimmed or adjusted.

This might help a bit.

Your best bet is to look for a WH bin tint.

I have a XR-E P4 WH in an aleph 3 that I don't think I'll ever change even with the higher flux bins because the tint is absolutely fantastic...nice and warm.

Whats this about a Cree in a Aleph 3? Don't we use SSC's in luxeon based reflectors like the 38mm and 45mm?
I tried it and got a cross in the center of my beam.
It looks like it needs to sit forward more. What do you say cryhavok?

There is the Warm White XR-E N4 Bin
I believe only around 60 lumens @ 350ma

Hey, thanks for all the responses

mahonney I have some of the stars from the shoppe so they should be fine for height.

sskyy thanks for the chart, cryhavok yes the WH looks nice and warm. I have come to a similar conclusion, for me tint is more important than output.

nein166, I will try and make some up and see how I get on, if they are ugly I will revert to a nice SSC P4.

now to find WH bin...

thanks, Ian :)

thanks Dom and Monkeyboy, perfect I've ordered 2 emitters and 2 on MCPCBs

Monkeyboy, I hear you on that, I love the warm tint of my EDC LED, but turn on an(incandescent) E2e and it looks so cold :D

thanks for all your help,

Ian :)

I have built both a Cree XR-E LE's and Seoul P4 LE's, and find that the Cree gets the upper hand in throw. It is true the reflector needs to be opened up at the bottom quite a bit...

The beam profiles are very different, though. The Seoul P4 produces a smaller spot but has a much larger corona that gradually transitions to the spill. The XR-E's profile is a very intense hotspot, very very little transitional corona, and the spill.

The LE pulls a little over 1A from the battery and the light produces around 13,000 lux@ 1 meter. You can read here about when I first built the LE
It all depends on how much you remove from the back of the reflector.
