I tried the search tool, but was quickly overwhelmed:sigh: info-overload:twothumbs

Curious, what setup has a longer run time and cooler operating temperature?

M60 with 2 quality primaries (surefire, Duracell etc) -OR- M30 with an AW protected 17670 ?

thanks

The M60 on primaries should give you 1.5 hour runtime.

The M30 on a 17670, from what I have read, should give you about an hour of runtime.

I'm running an M30 + Leef 18650 body + 18650 battery, and it gives you about a 2 hour runtime!

If you want to go the rechargeable route with the M30 and a longer runtime, I highly suggest picking up a Leef body here:

I agree 100%!

1 18650 Leef nat bodies are a wonderful thing! Anybody want a nat finish 6P! :naughty: You can make a very close approximation with this part. I am waiting on my 2nd M30 - an M30WF. I can't wait. :D

My M30 can get warm, but that is understandable as it is running at 1.25A draw from battery and is putting out more lumens, or same as M60. If you run the M30 with one CR123, or two NiMh AA's, it will pull about 1amp from the battery and deliver 130 lumens or so mostly flat runtime, for quite awhile. M30 is a very flexable pill.

That is what I love about the M30 flavors, the great flexiblity.

Run on an 18650/17650 till it's out and repeat till you are out of charged cells then toss in a spacer cell and a primary and keep on going!
Later if you run out of primary Cr123's then toss the M30 in a 3 cell body and run 2 AA cells! You can always in a pinch find 2 AA cells to use.
It is THE module for the end of the world. :)

My M30 is living happily in my C3 w/ two alkalines, and when/if I want to upgrade that flashlight to LiIons for greater performance, the M30 will get still more luvin' in a C2 w/ a 17670. I got the M30 this year as it could exist quite well with many different battery setups as I upgrade or change host preferences.

An earlier musing of mine, included here on the off chance someone might find it useful when thinking of an M30 vs an M60 in 2 or 3 cell SF hosts:

Check out this thread... According to gsnorm,

"Runtime:
M60 = over 1.5 hours regulated / over 3.5 hours total
M30 = ran for 1 hour and 57 minutes before shutting off. No noticeable drop in output during the run. ( ran for 1 hour and 19 minutes on a 17670 before shutting off)

The M30 runs noticeably warmer (not hot) than the M60."

I'm waiting for my M30, but have asked the man himself if he can make:

M30LF: I would assume he can make it, plus tons of flood and about 140 lumens out of 1 cell cr123 for 3 hours or so on primaries. Well this is what I hope.

This would be for close range emergency use in my tool bag or use in the house when the lights go out. Two yrs ago I was out for 13 days:mecry:believe it or not, just had candles.....

WOW 13 days. At that point I might of had to dip into primary 123's.

If that happens often you might think about getting a Freeplay Led crank lantern. Not the brightest in the world but for long outages it WILL save you some money in batteries.

Oh and I have also asked about the M30WLF, almost the same thing as you. Not heard back just yet though. It would also make an excellent emergency light plus show colors better!

Just heard back from Gene. He said the M30 flood version is not developed yet.

UH-OH, that's just what I paypal'ed him for this morning! Hmmmmm he has also sent the shipping confirmation so my M30WF is on it's way.

I think somehow you 2 must of had a communication error.

I asked for the M30LF version. I may have to ask him for a warm version and maybe he made extras like the one he made for you. Off I go to ask.:candle:

AH that's it!
An M30LF, it's the L part of the M30 you want that is still being worked on.
The F part is just gained by choosing 1 optic over another and pressing it into the drop-in.

Mystery solved.

The W=warm tint. Will this make it more like an Incan????

Oh YES! But warm does not mean yellow.

Much better for showing colors properly and more pleasing to the eyes of some people. Like my eyes for instance!
