Newly Enlightened
Just a quick summation of my first month with the E2 hyper throw. I've been carrying either the SF EDC 1lt or a Malkoff Bodyguard V1 for about a year now and wanted to try out a "pocket penetrator". I think the E2 hyper on a single 16340 (efest 16340 v2) lives up to the task. It's small, discrete, and focused on the singular purpose of instantly placing a large amount of penetrating blinding light on something. Its annoyingly bright as a task light, almost to the point of being useless. The output (500lm) seems significantly less than the Bodyguards 700 lumens due to the beam pattern until you start testing it on distant objects, car interiors at 20 yards, etc., then you realize just how much light it puts on target.
I did a few amateur test. The above 3 lights into the front of the car from about 25 yards. All, of course, illuminated the cars interior, but the Hyper gave the significant advantage of being able to make out more details of the occupants and potentially see stuff that the bodyguard and the SF would miss due to their lack of throw. Significant difference on the receiving end as well. Bottom line: its a single purpose light: penetrate and overwhelm the target. Great pistol companion light. The bodyguard and SF EDC are more defensive. Find the threat, illuminate it, keep it visible. The hyper leans more offensive. You know what needs illuminating. Penetrate the car interior, overwhelm it, see the fine details as you advance.
On a lighter note, the hyper is a lot of fun. At some point an overwhelming floodlight is no different than turning the lights on. That's no fun! Impressing your kids on a humid night by sending the "bat signal" beam into the air, now that's fun. Bottom line: its a keeper. Great "just in case" light for the mall, urban walks, or just having fun outdoors. Regarding outdoor use with the hyper, its like the old Reagan commercial with the Soviets and the bear in the woods. If there IS a bear and you know it, then you want the hyper. If you don't know if there is a bear then you probably want the bodyguard. Because you may not be aware of the bear with the hyper. (you'll have to youtube that commercial)

Far trees about 100 yards.
