Malkoff M30 with 2 NIMH????

Has anyone tried running an M30 with two NIMH cells? I think this could be a nice bulletproof 2 AA solution but I'm not sure how well the M30 will run at 2.4 volts.

Plenty of people have ran it on 2aa's in a 9p. The input voltage is 1v to 5.5v. It should work on 1aa.
