Re: malkoff mc-e

I am one of Gene's biggest supporters here but, personally, I have to say no.

It has little choice but to have a short runtime being what it is and I am a long runtime nut. It's also a little too steep for me right now.

Now if I was in a hostile environment clearing rooms for a living then this would be the poop being a very bright total flood machine.
Especially in the warm tint.

Re: malkoff mc-e

feel kinda stupid for asking but is the MC-E the same as Gene's P7 drop-ins?

Re: malkoff mc-e

The Surefire P7's were made to order and never listed on his site.

The MC-E's are going to be a regular item instead of custom. :D

The MC-E are using the flood optic and the P7's (I think) used a reflector.

Re: malkoff mc-e

Similar but not exactly the same. P7 is the Seoul Semiconductor quad die LED, whereas the MC-E is the Cree quad die package.
I assume Gene runs the MC-E direct drive just like the P7 but I dont' know this for a fact.
But if he ever makes a warm tint, regulated (on 18650 IMR) version I'll be all over it. Run times be damned! I'd love to see what the beam looks like, there are some decent looking optics with at least some throw for the MC-E.

Re: malkoff mc-e

Just ordered an M60 MC-E Warm... this is exactly what I've been waiting for!

Not looking for runtime, just want something ridiculously bright that I can run off primaries and drop into a SF weapon light... this fits the bill perfectly!

With regard to the runtime, it should be noted that this dropin gets well over twice the lumens of the M60WF (400+ vs 170) with only half the runtime. Seems like a good tradeoff to me. Since the emitters in the MC-E are not being run at maximum power, they are more efficient than a single XR-E driven at maximum.

Also, the description states that it is regulated above 5v...

My guess is that it's 2s2p. I'm interested to hear from Gene about this one.

:broke:Akk, my dream module that I begged for from gene and I'm broke.:ohgeez: Aughta be perfect with a pair of IMR 16340's, for a 20 minute runtime.

I thoght about it as I slept.

If Gene lets us have an optic besides the 20 degree pure flood I'll cave and get one in warm.

Re: malkoff mc-e

It's regulated - the P7s were direct drive, these are not.

Also, nobody has a tight-beam optic for the MC-E yet that doesn't suck. Here's hoping...

Re: malkoff mc-e

I've got other Malkoff's to hold me over till a more throwy MC-E optic makes it's appearance.

I understand it won't be perfect since it's a 4 die but I'm sure something more throwy than 20 degree is, or will be, possible.

Re: malkoff mc-e

Not a good idea if it's regulated down to 5V.

Regulated to 5 volts with a sudden drop in output, and shutting off entirely at 4.5 volts. This should be pretty close to incan behavior and prevent gross cell damage if fully discharged. Safer for the cell than an M60 or M30 on 2x16340/1x17670 in any event.

Re: malkoff mc-e

This is the perfect for those who wanted a MC-E for their 6P or 9P, but wanted to use rechargeables. I have a 6P bored to use Gens P60 P7, but I recently got 2 18650 extentions from Lighthound. Now, I could use 3 18650's on a MC-E for longer runtimes. If I want throw I can just drop in a P91 incan for now. I ordered the DX 14v xenon but haven't received it yet. Well, whether it works for you or not this is moving in the right direction.

Great job Gene Inovation Malkoff..:D

Re: malkoff mc-e

Questions:

1) Possible to get 8 degree optic instead of 20 degree that it comes with?

2) I see I can use it with 4x123 cells or 2x18650, given its up to 13V?

3) What's the actual lumens? Are the stated lumens accurate like in case of "regular" M60?

What did Gene say when you e-mailed him these questions?:ohgeez:
