Hi,

First of all please excuse my english.

I want to tell you a little bit about my latest goodie that I received last friday from Gene.

It is a MC-E Direct Drive Drop In for 1 Li-Ion cell that I ´ve requested from Gene.

For my EDC purposes I use several flashlights including Fenixes and an old Surefire 3P with an M30WF from Gene.

First let me say that I´m also very impressed about the M30WF. With this module you get a Drop In with very good color rendition IMHO and enough runtime for a walk at night with my baby stroller ( and my son of course..)

But I wanted something new, something quite more impresssive. Something when you pull out your little Surefire 3P and fire it up then everybody says wow.

So I wrote an e-mail to Gene requesting a MC-E Drop In for 1 Li-Ion cell (AW IMR16340) including the fact that long runtime is not important for me.

And here I is what Gene build for me (and as far as I know for some other CPF members too).

Malkoff MC-E Direct Drive Drop In for 1 Li-Ion cell :bow:

I asked Gene about the expected output on 1 AW IMR16430 cell and he stated that it will be 700+ Lumens.

At this time I can only provide some indoor beamshots for you.

Hello Ryanrpm ,

I´ve paid 75$ exclusive shipping fees. But I think you have to ask Gene for the price because these DropIn´s are made by request like the P7 Direct Drive DropIn´s.

I too am waiting for my MC-E direct drive warm to drop-in the mail. Gene told me that with a fully charged 18650 he got 3.5amp draw and he guestimates well into 1000 lumens for the first couple minutes at least. At 10 minutes it settled down at 2.8amp draw.

Get a P60 18650 hosts and see if you notice a difference.
Previously:
I ran my Malkoff P7 P60 on direct in a Surefire 3P and a Surefire 6P bored to accept IMR 18650 cells and I could have sworn it was or appeared brighter with the bigger cell. I had 3 pair of IMR 16340s and 3 pair of IMR 18650's and fully charged with all of them I noticed the same thing. I first I thought it was me seing things, but there is some logic behind it.

You are in luck because Gene will have 18650 hosts for P60 drop-ins by this Friday for sale and a little later this year he said he will try and get the single "C" cell P60 hosts too. I bet the "C" IMR cells will hold the 3.5amp draw longer too.

Great pictures by the way. I was about to say the MC-E has a blue tint, but then realized your wall is blue:D:D:D

Any outdoor beamshoots????

Received my M60 MC-E Direct Drive yesterday and I really like this flood monster. I can't take outdoor shots at night because my best camera is a cellphone. Albeit a Nokia N95, so the shots are OK indoors. What I find fascinating is how Malkoff completely eliminates the hot spot on this light. Take a look at this picture from my N95. Notice that there is a hexagonal "reverse pyramid" that is attached to the underside of the beveled lens. It effectively disperses all the light from the center, and redistributes it evenly across the full diameter of the dropin.

All beamshots were taken from about 25 feet away from wall. Walls are soft white in color.

Here is an indoor shot of an MTE M3-2 with an MC-E, running off of an AW 18650. Notice the hotspot?

Now here is the Malkoff MC-E in a Solarforce L2 18650 host with a 6P bezel running on AW IMR18650. Absolutely no hot spot. Just pure flood.

Here is a shot of a Surefire 6P with standard P60 bulb and fresh surefire 123's.

Again, I know everyone wants to see outdoor pics, but I just have a cellphone. What I can say is that my house sits on an acre. My backyard is about 50 yards deep, and 35 to 40 yards across. My Malkoff lights up the ENTIRE backyard, to where I can easily see my black/brown/white basset hound all the way against the back fence, as well as my pines behind the fence. What's amazing is that I can see his brown colors at 50 yards with the Malkoff, in direct drive.

Yeah, but the question is ...

Can he see you?

With the mc-e, my dog (or anyone else) may as well be looking into the sun. Meaning, I have a 500+ lumen light in front of my body, aimed at him. It doesn't matter that the light is a flood light because all that light originates from a 1 inch opening.

No one will be able to focus in on what's behind that bright light. As long as the light is pointed at the target and is in front of me, I'll be invisible.

I just got my MC-E warm Direct drive last night. Let me first say wow.:D

The power of the MC-E dd is not as apparent indoors to me. I took it to my backyard and it nearly blew me away what a huge difference it is compared to my M60. The warm makes the M60 appear blue like. The MC-E at 50 feet plus ligths up everything really brigh. I will try and get pictures up tonight in a new thread as mine is warm version.

Indoors it lights up everything but since my house is not that big so does my M60. Which is why the outdoor beam shoots are just amazing. I think I found the perfect walking light.
