McClicky For G2?

You might be able to get a McClicky to work in a G2 tailcap, but it would take some creativity. The inner diameter of the G2 tailcap is bigger than the outer diameter of the McClicky, so you'd need to add something to keep the switch centered and in place. And I don't think the switched contact on the McClicky would be wide enough to reach the contact on the body, so you'd also need to bridge that. It's probably doable, but not trivial.

Sorry if this is considered a hijack. Same subject.

Would the McClicky switch be a better fit in a 6P tailcap?

Yeah, I emailed light hound and had a quick response from them saying the same sort of thing. Nice quick response.

I seem to remmber reading about a garett mod from walmart or something that might work in the G2. Any ideas on that or where I could find that thread?

Fitting a McClicky in a stock 6P tailcap would have the same issues as the G2. The McClicky is threaded like an E-series body - not as wide as C-series threads (I don't know the specs off-hand).

After looking at a couple G2 tailcaps (one lockout, one non-lockout), you'd probably have to bore it out slightly, add an insert that provides E-series threads for the McClicky and then C-series threads for a retaining ring and the body (the existing threads aren't deep enough), and source/make the retaining ring. And, the non-lockout tailcap probably isn't deep enough to accomodate all this. I have no idea if this would even work, and unless you're handy with a lathe (or know someone who is), I wouldn't bother.

I just took the guts from the DX and put it in the G2 tailcap.

^^ This mod works great. Just did it to the G2 I'm giving this Christmas. The G2 switch just pulls apart, it does take some force however. Now I am left with an empty tailcap. I'll either convert it to a twisty for my FM1794 mod or put a Fenix foward clicky in it (if that will fit.)

Thanks for the tip.

I just did this G2 trick on my 6P and it works perfect, but I still need the clip.

Where can I get that clip and O-ring perfectly fit for a 6P???????????

Bummer, I'm looking for a momentary clicky solution for my G3 tailcap whose guts I've already removed, ruining the plastic retaining ring in the process. I've temporarily installed the guts from a SolarForce L2 switch in it, so the DX switch wouldn't give me anything different, except possibly a better fit.

With the L2/G3 tailcap screwed all the way down, there's about a quarter inch gap. I might get the DX switch anyways, 'cause a reverse switch works nice to operate a couple of multi-mode LED dropins that I have.

I wonder if Lighthound part numbers FENSWTB or SOLL2S2 could be made to work. The Fenix switch(FENSWTB) might be the cheaper option, I'd be more inclined to think the Solarforce (SOLL2S2) would work just because the other solarforce switch does. There are a couple other fenix foward switches available on lighthound also you might experiment with. I'd like a forward clicky on mine in the next few months so if you figure it out let us know.

edit -- And yes, to answer your question incase it wasn't apparent in my post; the DX switch solarforce tail cap is a -reverse- clicky.

Thanks a lot for this hint. I never liked replacing the nitrolon tailcap with an alloy one as offered from surefire...
Now i'm gonna mod all my G2s :twothumbs:grin2::twothumbs:grin2::twothumbs

I hope this mod works for me. I just ordered a couple of them for my G2's that I want to give for gifts this Christmas. RG

I purchased the DX clickie too but but the body of G2 wont screw on. It's as if the clickie is too thick and wont have enough threads left to allow the body to screw on. help.
