Aloha,

unfortunatelly the clicky of my K2000R broke. I just ordered a replacement but since the rechargeable does not have more than 20 cycles yet (I snatched the light from Morpheus who told me it had not more then 10 cycles iirc + about 10 from me) it should still be working except for the clicky. Something like a broken part seems to rattle around in the switch and if pressed, nothing happens anymore, no click, nothing.

Unfortunatelly I don´t have warrenty on this light. I already asked the german Microfire retailer (from whom I ordered the replacement rechargeable) about a repair but they are on holiday right now. Hopefully they are able and willing to do the repair.

Just in case: Does anyone know how to open up that clicky or the rechargeable? All I could achive was to remove the rubber cap and the red cap beneath it.

Then it looks like this, the part can be turned but that´s all. I am not able to remove anything further.

Maybe you get to the clicky through the other end by removing the rechargeables from the body but I woulnd´t know how to do that as well.

I have a similar problem, but not sure.

If I want the light fire up, i thave to clik several several times. At the first 4-5 cliks there is a flash, but the light do not start up. It could be a faulty switch with loose contacts.

But on the other hand it could be something else: something is wrong with the circuits and the ignition is weak, or the bulb is faulty.

I hope it is the switch.

Is that the light I sold you.

If so the battery (and switch was brand new).

River Runner (Lance) switched it out for me. If it is giving you trouble I bet he will switch it out for you... Let him know if it is malfunctioning...

Thanks Vic.

I don't think that it is a major problem, rather a nuissance and doesn't getting worse.

I am not sure it worth the bothering with customs, transportation, etc.

Anyway thanks

That battery pack is disassembled from the other side. The electrical contact plate has two holes in it, you unscrew it with a spanner. It's v-e-r-y difficult to do without scratching the contacts, so be careful.

Once you unscrew the contact ring the battery pack comes apart easily. However you will still need to find a replacement switch.

Thanks scott, unfortunatelly mine does not have any holes in the contact plate. It looks like this:

Any idea how to open that up?

Eric

Hey Eric,

Im sorry that the switch crapped out on you.
Have you talked to OpticsHQ?

Im sure they will warrant the body for you.
If they wont warrant the light since you didnt buy iy from them just mention that you bought it from me.

Im pretty sure they will take care of it for you.

Regards,
Benny

Hi Benny,

I´ll give it a try since the german microfire retailer unfortunatelly didn´t bother to answer my question. Thank you.

I received the replacement today and that one does not have holes in the contact plate either.

Hi Eric,

If you manage to get the pack open I have a switch you can have for free.

I've had problems with my K2000R since I bought it, so much so I no longer use it for my work. It has real problems starting, sometimes it takes 5-6 clicks to fire-up. I just can't rely on it.

I spoke to Mike from Optics HQ who's customer service was excellent, and he sent me out a replacement battery pack. Unfortunately the problem still exists.

I can't be hassled with all the customs and postage fees to send the whole unit back to Optics HQ and then for Mike to be out of pocket in sending it back to Microfire.

Anyway, I couldn't get my old pack open either, so I carefully cut it open with my Dremel. I have salvaged the cells and the switch.

The switch end on the pack is definitely threaded but there is nothing to grip in order to unscrew it. The threads seems bonded as well, so you would probably have to heat it first.

If you do manage to get it open, the switch is yours!

Sorry I couldn't be much more help...

Regards,

Terry

Hi Terry,

thanks a lot for your input and for your offer of course! I´ll get back to you if I´ll get this thing open. Just curious: what kind of cells were in the pack?

Eric

Eric,

There were three Unprotected 18650 cells connected to a small rectangular PCB. The battery pack was potted in white silicone.

You could try sending a PM to HIDRETAIL, he may be able to give you some ideas but I'm not sure how much info they would be willing to give out.

If I come up with any other info I'll let you know.

Cheers,

Terry

hard to believe you are scrapping a HID light over a switch.
seems if this is a known problem, entire switch assembly should be sent out to you to fix.

your light should be able to be serviced and put back in action..

I have been having the same problem with a 2000r. I recon it's the ballast and not the battery as I have tested the batteries. Try putting the light somewhere warm and then try it, it works 98% of the time, then put it in the fridge for an hour… wont start for love nor money! I am in the uk and its not that warm most of the time! This seems to be a common fault? When it starts its great but you can't rely on something like that… Luckily the guy I got it off has been very understanding and is getting it fixed for me.

Hi CY,

Hopefully this won't send the thread too far off track, but Strideredc has nailed my findings exactly. The ballast is almost definitely at fault, I tried the thing with the fridge also!

I've contacted Microfire and asked if I could return just the ballast board and get a replacement (I understand this has been re-designed to improve start-up time). The language barrier poses a few problems and all they reply is to return the entire unit to OpticsHQ.

It certainly isn't cheap to send a heavy parcel back to OpticsHQ who will then have to send it off to China and then back to me. I'm fairly sure I'll also have to pay another lot of custom fees.

Your right it is a shame; the flashlight works, just not well enough to be relied upon. My Mag85 is safe for a while...

Think I'll email Microfire again and have another go.

Cheers all,

Terry

sure hope you get this resolved!

that's simply too expensive of a light to take a total loss.

if you send it back to opticsHQ put on the cn22 form that its faulty and is being returned and when they send it to you tell them to put the same. or you can claim the vat back from uk customs. you dont have to pay twice

as for microfire.... they ignored my emails!!!:(

good luck

ps sorry for stealing this thread:whistle:

+1 on the clicky issue. I have two batteries, one I have to click on three times to get the light to fire up, the other works most of the time on the first try. It seems like a good quality light, but like above posts, I can't be bothered trying to click a light on when I need it now...

So there are a lot of things that need to be cleared up. I was on holiday for over one week and visited Microfire ans Fenix in Shenzhen.

At first, Microfire ist not going to refund or repair anything by themself when you get in contact with them. Only the retailers are able to handle the warranty. So if anybody buys a light cheap over a not official retailer to safe some money he can get a big problem when anything happens with the light.

So if there is a problem please first get in contact with your dealer, if he does not get in contact with me over email ( please no PM) and I will tell Microfire about that and clear up what I can do.

I allready got in contact with Eric to clear up his problem, I did not get his question about the problem with the switch. It is not designed to be opened up and any tries to do so will hurt the warranty.

Some rechargeable battery packs have problems with lower temperatures below 12 degree. That is the reason why some lights do not start up directly and need some switches to come up. In that case please contact your dealer .

Anything else you want to know than pleasde post in that thread or send me an email.

is that 12 degree F or C?
