I've noticed over the last two weeks that some mildew (the sort you get on camera lenses in the tropics) has formed on the reflector of my TK40.

I use it a couple of times a week when I go walking at night and it does get humid here in Queensland during the summer and early autumn.
I've only had it for a short time (three months) and never abused it or done anything other than change the batteries.

Has anyone else ever had this, and would this be covered by warranty? I'm pretty sure, from previous experience that this will eventually destroy the reflector and hence, the light.

It's strange how it got in there to start with, the head unit is supposed to be sealed. It should not happen.

Maybe it got there on assembly.
If i were you, i'd contact the dealer.

This is not the first time we hear of the problem: link

I can only repeat my piece of advice: try first to get the humidity out of your light's head by leaving the head itself out to dry. I believe it could be difficult to have the light replaced for this reason but you can ask the vendor.

I doubt you are referring to mildew, which grows on organic matter, but rather to a fungus that grows on and etches glass. There are treatments that can remove it, but the main cure is prevention, whereby you keep the glass dry, or at least make sure it is dry once you get back home, and out of the rain.
