i bought the ministar2 extreme drop in for my 2aa maglite. dropped it in and used the reflector it came with. now, the question i have is, is there an aftermarket reflector i can buy that will get rid of most of the spill or the ring and make the throw a lot better? i know the maglites are adjustable, but i'm really going to keep this on one position only so I would rather have a stronger beam with greater throw than have all that spill and ring effect.

Less artifacts and more throw?

That is impossible in a reasonably priced reflector of the same size.

If you can find a narrow optic that fits then that might work but you will get much less/no spill.

i figured as much! overall i'm happy with the drop-in upgrade... just thought i'd put the question out there, it's probably been asked millions of times! now, probably after the holidays, i want to start making my own custom flashlights! hopefully, this forum is going to be helpful. you're the first to respond to any of my posts (3 total! hahaha)

Get a clicky tailcap and set it to "throw" mode. You'll have a nice tight spot with little to no rings, and you won't have to adjust the head because the clicky will turn the light on and off..

where can i get a clicky tailcap? i have a tailcap on there now thats push button, but i dont think it has a "throw" mode. i'm also finding it hard to believe that a tailcap will get rid of the rings around my beam... can anyone else confirm this?

No, the tailcap doesn't..

The head can be focused to create a flood or throw beam. If you set the head to throw, there will be a tight dot on the wall, with little to no ring around the outside.

To keep the focus from changing, you use a tailcap switch..

Cool Thanks! :)
