A trip to Wal-Mart and I had the smaller Black & Decker, 580 lumen, 55 watt, spotlight for $16.95. I stopped by Sears tool dept. and picked up a Dorcy, Halogen, 6 volt, 100 watt replacement bulb for $4.50. That night I stepped out onto my condo's balcony and terrorized the neighborhood with almost 1,200 lumens and that was enough to satisfy my lumen starvation, for under $22.
:sick2::eek::whistle::thumbsup:

Well Spence, I don't want to bust your bubble, but I don't think enyone here is interested in a 100 watt light producing 1,200 lumens! Not even at under $22!

Thats 12 lumens/watt efficiency !! "do you see the spot on the clouds yet?".. :candle:.. "No,,Do you?"

But he, if you are happy with it.. That is the most important thing!

Sorry..

Thats not nice Ra, we cant all have lights that do thatttttt. :D

Spence, there isnt enough lumens in the universe to satisfy my starvation. 1200 lumens for me might be enough to torment a cat tho, dunno.

chuck us some beamshots, mate

It must be terrible for your neighbours to live under this constant fear and terror. Always just waiting for the moment when you once again appear on your balcony and blind everyone with that monster. :naughty:

Just kidding, nice modding.

Ok, maybe I was a bit too harsh on the guy... It was meant funny..

Spence, it was absolutely not my intention to offend you in any way..

So if you feel offended, I'm sorry about that !!

Regards,

Ra.

I 'd say Ra is open to some pretty harsh criticism with his stupidly throwy Mercury Arc maxablaster. :p

For $22 bucks if it could be replaced with a 12 volts bulb instead, I could run it on a turret on top of my house with a 12 volt transformer.

Decent mod. If you live near a Sam's Club they sell a 20 million candle power spotlight that will really impress you. It sells for $29.99 and should be around 2,000+ lumens. The throw on it is unreal!
If you're looking for more power you'll need to buy the Sam's HID spotlight, but that sells for quite a bit more at $99.99. Some Sam's have it on clearance so you might get lucky and catch a deal.
Don't worry about your light not measuring up to CPF standard. Some of the guys on here have spotlights that make a car headlight look like a Mag Solitaire. So it takes quite a bit to impress them.

Spence, what kind of beam does you terrorizor put out? Flood or Spot?

I have 2 (flood & spot) halogen lights, that I made a while ago. Both under 5kg mark that put out around 3,500 lumens each. Both get decent runtime & don't overheat. IMO there the limit in lumens with 12v halogen handheld. Before I joined CPF They were my most powerful lights, & Sh#$ted over those 10mill spotlights. I still scare my neighbores with them baddd. But certanily can't scorch cloud tops. :(:(:(

Yea, I've got the Black & Decker spotlight you're talkin about. I like it but the 55w bulb @ 6v goes through that little SLA battery at a very impressive rate.
I think it's a 3ah SLA, and @ ~9 amps this things doesn't like extended runs (2 minutes tops hehehe) A few minutes of high output than :poof:, you got your self a 3D m@glite..

I do like it though. I also have a Brinkman spotlight with a 35w bulb, I can't tell a big difference between the two, in terms of output. (The 55w and the 35w).

The throw on the black and decker is alot better though, it has an up-and-down filament, where the brinkman has a left-to-right Filament. (someone please correct me as to the correct words for the Filament placement..)

Your 6v/100w bulb is pulling ~16.5 amps!!! From a very small battery to say the least.. (3 ah I think..?) I bet the runtime is QUICK!

Also just for fun I put a peice of parchment paper under the black rubber housing to make it a flood light.

Hey RA,
I'm not offended easily. I know, quite well, when I posted here, I was in the throws (pardon the pun) of real "big league" lumen hunters. Just consider me an amatuer in the HID realm.
Actually, I get about twenty minutes run time with that B & D spotlight with 100 watt bulb, it's okay for me. I have the larger B & D spotlight ($29.95) w/ a 75 w bulb. It throws pretty well, but sure is bulky w/ the handle over the top. I like the smaller light for my "hit n run" fun.

That's cool Spence. 1200 lumens isn't shabby at all. We all started somewhere right. Hey, did you see that link that EZ78 posted for you? Those are really great lights for the price if you're interested in HID. :)
